21 CHURCH COLLEGE Not Liable For Rates SUCCESSFUL APPEAL SYDNEY Six Justices of the High Court were unanimous today in allowing the appeal of the Roman Catholic Archbishop against the judgment of the Chief Judge in Equity, declaring that the Archbishop “was liable for rates on land occupied directly in connection with the building known as St Patrick’s College Manly.” The question at issue was whether the college was used solely for religious uses. The Judges said they could not agree with the Chief Judge in Equity that the college building was used as a sort of estate. The Canberra Times St Patrick’s Seminary was a building from an era past.
