The Darkness

Chapter 0ne Solem Thoughts

Ava stares after all of the other mermaids long after they are gone. She really hated making her parents mad, but she had no other choice. It looked like The Darkness had stopped for now, but it will soon get moving again, and they would all die. They had to figure something out, and soon. Fish flash by, going the same way everyone else had gone.

Ava sighs and turns back to where her friends were talking, trying to come up with a plan. "We don't know how long he's going to stay where he is, so we need a plan," Colby was saying.

Heather rolls her beautiful blue eyes, "We know that Mr. Captain Obvious, but how do we come up with a plan?" She flips her long blond hair dramatically.

They thought and thought until Devin interrupted the silence, "Can we eat?" Everyone else groans, "You always want to eat!" Robin says, laughing. Devin shrugs, "Gotta stay strong." Ava laughs, "All you'll be staying is fat," she says, giggling when he blushes. Heather raises her eyebrows but doesn't say anything.

Ava gets back to the problem at hand. "Okay, so, The Darkness, is huge, we all know that," she starts looking at everyone as they all nod, then starts again. She was sort of like the person they all look to for ideas and plans. "Okay, so, I think we need to find a way to distract him- or it." Colby raises his hand and she points at him, "Lets call The Darkness, 'it." he says.

Ava nods and continues, "Okay, so we need to figure up a way to get it's attention and then work our way from there. . . so, any ideas?" Everyone looks at Ava and she frowns. "What?" she asked, confused. Devin looks at his feet, "Well, you usually ow! What?!" His sister had elbowed him in the stomach and gives him a look that Ava couldn't decipher. "Um, I meant, you are so smart, and always have plans, sooo..." he pauses and finally looks up into Ava's eyes. "Do you have a plan?" he asks, looking at her with sad, scared, and frightened eyes, making her wish that she really did have a plan. But she didn't, at least not yet.

Shaking her head she swims a little away from her friends and stares at The Darkness, looming a while away from her and her friends. "Come on Ava, think," she whispers quietly to herself. She doesn't notice someone beside her until they speak. "You can do this Ava, I know you can," Devin says. Ava smiles at him, making him blush an adorable pink. "Thanks, but, I don't know that," she whispers partially to herself, but he still hears her. He doesn't say anything but reaches over and twines both f their fingers together. "You can do this," Devin whispers.
