Chapter 11: Elyndra

975 Words
“Look at me,” Elyndra said with slight panic in her voice. Ethan turned to her, “Let me see your wolf,” He complied. She stared into his eyes for a long time. She didn’t need to though, she noticed it quickly since she knew what she was looking for. “What is it?” Ethan asked worriedly. “Ethan,” she started slowly and grabbed his hands in hers. “You have to be careful, very careful,” “I don’t understand,” “I know, I - I don’t want to tell you and it change what I’m seeing and something bad happens. But just know you’re on a good path. And I’ll always have you back,” “Come on, let me take you home,” Ethan waited while she grabbed her stuff. The car ride was silent, a comforting silence. Elyndra didn’t keep secrets from her brother, but she was scared to say it out loud. Ethan parked in front of her home and turned to her, “I talked to Dylan. He told me everything that happened. I’m sorry that happened to you,” She turned to him and smiled sadly, “Me too, but - but maybe it needed to happen. I don’t know,” she looked out the window, “I don’t want to justify it and I don’t want to okay it, but something clicked in me that day. I feel more connected, more powerful,” “It’s hard, understanding why we go through what we do. I still don’t understand a lot of it, like why the Goddess allows such treatment towards you,” “It’s hard to not loose faith sometimes. Levi was cruel, wasn’t antagonistic. He was simply there seeking help,” “Is it true? That he was an alpha?” She nodded, “I’d like to still try to figure out where he came from. Even if he is gone, what if someone is looking for him? Misses him?” Ethan reached over and grabbed her hand, “You can and you will. I’ll help however I can,” She let out a loud sigh, “Boy am I glad you’re home. My heart doesn’t feel as heavy and I’m not wound with worry,” He laughed, “You’re the one we have to worry about! Over here grabbing hearts and s**t,” They laughed a little longer together before saying goodbye. Elyndra watched him drive away from the front window. She threw herself on her couch and screamed into the pillow. The Moon Goddess had to be playing a joke on her. Why after all these years would she give her a second chance mate? Not impossible, but she never thought she would have one. And another alpha at that. She didn’t want to reject him, she would never to that to a gift from the Moon, but she didn’t know how to accept it either. Maybe he would reject her, like Silas did. She could survive it - she survived the first one and she was stronger now. He already didn’t seem to like her, and she wasn’t stupid. If she knew, then he knew. And he obviously wasn’t ready or willing to accept it yet either. She was feeling overwhelmed and needed to distract herself. She went to her closet to see if she could find something acceptable for the ball in a few days. She and Ethan agreed she would come then, a compromise to herself and the Betas. —- 3 day later — Elyndra took a deep breath as she drove up the pathway to the pack house. She hated it here, too many bad memories. There were so many cars, members from different packs joining the annual ball. “Goddess give me strength,” she whispered before getting out of her car. She could hear the music plying as she walked up the stairs to the main entrance. Two guards nodded at her as she walked in. Taking another deep breath she straightened her shoulders and pushed forward. She followed the music to the large room they held parties in the back of the house. As she walked through the door, she quickly scanned the room for her brother. He was, of course, standing with Silas and Grace. She was hoping since she arrived a little late, he wouldn’t be next to them. Seems she wasn’t lucky. She walked toward them anyways and smiled at Ethan. Ignoring Silas and Grace. “Alpha Darien, Luna Mayreen,” Elyndra politely greeted the other two wolves standing with them. “Elyndra! It’s so wonderful to see you again!” Luna Mayreen had pulled her in for a hug. It had been a few years since they seen one another in person, though they had stayed in contact via phone. Silas cleared his throat, “Elyndra, I didn’t know you were coming,” She didn’t look at him as she answered, “Yes, it was only decided a few days ago. As much as I enjoy the pack, I have business to attend to,” Lune Mayreen was biting back a smile and her mate coughed to cover up a laugh. They knew the secrets that brewed within the pack. “What business is that? As your Alpha-“ Silas started. “As the pack’s alpha,” Elyndra corrected, finally looking at him, “You need to be aware of what business transpires between other packs and members. However,” she looked him up and down, “My business is not pack business nor is it yours,” she dared him with her eyes to argue. He clenched his jaw and Ethan put his hand on her shoulder. Before he could answer, a deep voice rumbled behind her, “Is this how you treat all Alphas?”
