Chapter 13

“Why are you asking?” Killian asked cautiously. “I made a promise,” she whispered. There was a sadness in her voice. “To help a friend. A silver eyed rogue is involved,” “I’ve heard some things, it felt more like gossip though,” “Anything you have would be appreciated,” Killian nodded, “I’ll get what I can and send it your way. Ely, just be careful. Rogues are dangerous. As are Alphas,” “I’ve faced death before, rogues and alphas are nothing,” she said looking up at the moon. She looked back at him, “Plus, you shouldn’t judge someone based on a title,” she gave him a soft smile, “you never know what their story is,” He nodded her way respectfully before turning away with Lucy. Lucy knew he needed time to process so she just squeezed his hand before kissing it. Caelum watched from the shadows as Elyndra stayed in the garden for a few moments longer. The light from the moon shone down on her and she glowed, her light brown skin soft and radiant with her navy blue silk gown. He followed behind her, he wanted to talk with her but also didn’t know what to say. He doubted she knew they were mates. He was about to step out of the shadows when Luna Grace stepped into the garden. He paid careful attention as Elyndra’s back tensed. The dress she wore, showed off her back, and he wasn’t stupid enough to not notice. “Grace,” Elyndra said without looking at her. “Luna Grace,” she emphasized. Elyndra chuckled, “Oh how silly of me. How could I forget?” She turned to her sister and looked her up and down before settling her gaze directly on her. He saw Grace shift uncomfortably. “Exactly. Didn’t you almost die?” Grace sneered. Elyndra clenched her fist. “Almost, but not quite. Seems the Moon Goddess isn’t quite done with me,” she answered with her head held high. Caelum’s interest piqued. What almost killed her? “She should be. You have nothing to offer. You’re wolf-less. Pathetic. Weak. Parading around here for attention,” “I’m not the one who came looking for a fight. What do you want Grace?” She knew she had come out for a reason. Grace whispered, “Tell me about him,” Elyndra laughed, a true laugh with her head thrown back. Caelum’s breath caught. When she was done she put her hand on her heart, “No,” she said firmly. “Please! I just want to know his name,” Grace pleaded. “You don’t deserve to know anything about him,” “He was mine! I do!” Grace said urgently. Elyndra’s hand moved from her chest to her stomach. Her eyes hard and her voice cold, “Did it hurt? When he rejected you? When he chose me over you?” She stepped closer, a breath away from her sister, “Did it hurt when he said the words without flinching? Without an ounce of remorse? Did it hurt when he stood by me?” Caelum held back a growl. How could she do that to her own sister? He thought angrily. Yet he was also confused, because he had thought Silas was Grace’s fated mate. Elyndra watched Grace whimper and look away. She had no remorse for the cruelty her words held. “You don’t have to be cruel,” Grace whispered. Elyndra was shocked at her audacity, “Cruel? This isn’t cruel. What’s cruel is your family turning their backs on you. Your big sister showing you no mercy, no care. Cruel is having your pack members hold you down and make you watch as your father and alpha kill an innocent. All he did was protect me and he was punished for it!” Tears fell from her face, she didn’t know how to recover from this wound. Grace pulled herself together, it was a struggle. “Like I said. You’re not worth protecting or caring for. He couldn’t even fight to stay alive,” she paused before adding, “Even your fated mate didn’t want you,” Caelum furrowed his brows as he kept watching, more confused than before. He watched this wolf less woman go nose to nose with a Luna. It must have been the goddess who allowed her words to carry to him, she spoke so softly yet firmly. “Make no mistake Grace, the mark you wear is a not that of an Alpha’s mate. It’s of betrayal, dishonor, and disrespect. Just because you chose each other, doesn’t mean you were meant to be. Actions have consequences, and the Goddess will deliver,” There was a sudden crack in the quiet air. Elyndra’s face turned and all that could be heard was Grace’s ragged breathing. Elyndra lifted her head and took a step back. “Let that be the last time you disrespect me, Grace. Otherwise, I’ll have to show you I’m not the same 18 year old you almost killed,” she listed her head, “Perhaps the same way I showed Silas,” without waiting for a reply she turned and walked away. She went around the pack house, texting Ethan she was leaving, not paying attention to who was around.
