Chapter 5
Ariel let out a long sigh, trying to calm herself after the earlier incident. Her throat still felt slightly sore from Gavin’s grip. She slowly got up, straightening her slightly wrinkled dress.
“I’m leaving,” she said shortly. Her voice sounded flat.
Gavin stood as well, his face full of guilt. “Ariel... I’m sorry. I don’t know why I went that far earlier. I was just afraid of losing you.”
Ariel raised a thin eyebrow. “Afraid of losing me? Gavin, if you were truly afraid, you wouldn’t have hurt me.”
“What did you say?” Gavin asked; he hadn’t clearly heard Ariel’s words.
“Ah, forget it!” Ariel looked at him briefly, then took a deep breath, trying to change the topic. “I hope you get well soon. The day after tomorrow you start shooting your new movie, God of War. You need to focus.”
Gavin looked up and gave a faint smile. “You’ll come with me for my first day of shooting, right?”
“We’ll see,” Ariel replied curtly.
As Ariel turned to leave, Gavin suddenly grabbed her arm. “Wait, Babe.” He stepped closer, clearly about to kiss her lips.
Ariel immediately stepped back half a pace. “Not in front of Iora. It’s not appropriate.”
Gavin glanced briefly at Iora, who was standing near the door watching them with a cynical gaze. He only gave a small nod, then pulled Ariel closer just to kiss her forehead. “Okay. But remember, I love you so much.”
Ariel gave a faint smile without returning the words. “Yeah. I’ll go now.”
Ariel quickly walked out of the room.
As soon as the door closed, Iora walked straight toward Gavin. “So because of Ariel, you’re refusing to get back with me?”
Gavin looked at Iora with a flat expression. “Yes, Iora. Now and forever, Ariel is the only woman I love.”
Iora scoffed. “Gavin, Ariel is not worthy of you.”
“Stop.” Gavin’s voice was firm. “I don’t want to discuss this.”
Outside the house, Ariel walked toward her car. Her steps were quick, her breath heavy. She got into the car, closed the door, then sat still for a few seconds.
Her hands gripped the steering wheel, but her eyes were blank. Deep down, she was disgusted. Disgusted with Gavin, disgusted with Iora’s drama, disgusted with the pressure from Aunt Gina. She wanted to break up. Desperately. But the thought of fighting with Aunt Gina made her hold back. That woman was not the type to be reasoned with calmly.
Meanwhile, in the bedroom, Iora still hadn’t stopped talking. “Gavin, do you think she’s sincere? She’s just using your name, using your fame.”
Gavin let out a breath, clearly growing irritated. “I’ve known Ariel longer than you. So, keep your opinions to yourself.”
Iora crossed her arms. “Fine. But if she hurts you later, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
Gavin didn’t respond.
On her way home, Ariel received a call from one of her colleagues at Zayden’s company.
“Hello, Ariel. The boss asked you to prepare the presentation documents for tomorrow morning’s meeting.”
Ariel nodded, though the person on the other end couldn’t see her. “Okay, I’ll finish them tonight.”
After the call ended, her thoughts drifted to Zayden. That night replayed so vividly—his gaze, his touch.
Ariel quickly shook her head, trying to push the thought away. “Don’t be stupid, Ariel. Enough problems with Gavin; don’t start a new one with his uncle,” she muttered.
But, for some reason, a faint smile appeared on her lips.
