One: Fire Starters
I ran for my life, my feet pounding against the earth, the dense forest around me suffocating. I could hear the shouting that trailed behind me - could feel the hatred that had pursued me for six months. I didn't know I was a Werewolf, not until I turned eighteen and transformed, managing to conceal myself before anyone saw, and spent years pretending I was normal. I'd hidden for four years with the humans who I was raised by, until an accident threw my world into chaos. Now, the town hunted me like I was an animal, tracking me across the country, The gnawing sensation I constantly suppressed crept back in, like someone was pressing against my brain and I tried to shake it off. I was so exhausted. Months on the run, so little sleep or food - I did the last thing I could desperately think of. With a final sharp inhale, I smelt the alteration in scents, telling me I found what I was looking for. Scent markers. I didn't know much about Werewolves, but I'd learnt how to smell Pack lands and learned small things. The main one was - Never enter a Pack territory without permission. Especially if you're a 'Rouge' Werewolf. Something they called the Wolves who didn't have a Pack. A human raised like me. But I had no choice. I was close to death I didn't think it could get much worse. A loud crack sounded behind me, and my heart raced as I was narrowly missed by a bullet, driving through a large oak trunk. Another round was fired and I screamed, diving behind trees as more filled the air, their shots turning wild as they lost sight of me. "s**t, s**t, s**t," I muttered, trying to weave and run faster. A different scent blew across the wind, catching my attention completely, my head snapping around to find it as I bolted through a large bush. It smells...so good - oh f**k! I suddenly collided with a solid wall of muscle. I hit hard, dazed and disoriented, a pair of large, rough hands grabbing my arms to steady me. My back was slammed against the hard wood of a tree, my eyes locking with the large man who now held me. Piercing light blue eyes stared down at me. He was beautiful, with a sharp jawline, marked with what I knew as a Lycan tattoo of an Alpha across his cheek, short black hair and a tattoo down his muscular left arm. I struggled against him, a noise of fear ripping from me involuntarily. "Wait-no, please!" I begged, knowing I needed to check the humans hadn't followed this far in before he- "Calm down," he growled in a deep voice that made me shiver, freezing me on the spot for a moment. "Please..." I managed to push him away, though I think he let me, my breath catching as we stared at each other. My heart slammed into my chest, my stomach twisting at the full sight of him and that stupid pressure. "Please, don't kill me." I begged. A look of something like hurt touched his eyes. "You don't feel it yet, do you baby girl?" He whispered. A surprised gasp left me, confusion spiking and I went to demand what he meant - why he called baby girl. But, I shivered at the timbre of his voice, something about it making my already weak body feel weaker. "Come here." He went to reach for me, but rationality kicked in, my body cowering back, whimpering in fear. He stopped, the look returning. "Hey!" A familiar human's voice shouted, making my eyes snap to the tree lines, seeing one of the hunters - pointing their gun at me. He fired, making me scream and react quickly, trying to move away from the Alpha. "Run!" I shouted at him. The bullet barely missed me, boring into the wood where I'd just been standing, the smell of silver in the air. The Alpha's eyes flashed with anger, smelling the toxic scent and he snarled at them, canines extending and talons bared. The human backed up a step, shouting in surprise. "Another f*****g monster!" I flinched at the word, a small cry leaving me as I fell to the ground. The Wolf glanced at me, a hesitation in his eyes before he turned on the group that caught up, frozen in fear as a loud roar ripped from him. I paled, realising he was about to attack. "Don't they'll-" Someone grabbed me, another man's voice shouting over my scream of surprise. "I've got her, Jaxon. Go!" He looked almost identical to Jaxon, but his hair was longer, bound back with a tie and his eyes greyer - a shorter Alpha tattoo marking his perfectly tanned cheek. Jaxon was already moving toward the humans, his speed impossible and his voice echoed. "She gets hurt, I'll kill you last, Jace." He threatened. The man who held me, Jace, laughed, easily wrapping his arms under my legs and scooped me up like I weighed nothing. He was so warm, his touch spent sparks and tingled across my skin. I didn't understand it. I fought against my desire to melt into his hold. "Yeah, yeah," he murmured, his voice cocky and teasing. "Possessive bastard." I tried to struggle, but Jace held me tight, limiting my movements and overpowering me easily. "Hey, hey - don't worry Sweetheart, I've got you." He hushed. His head dipped, pressing his nose to the side of my neck just below my jaw. He inhaled deeply, like he appreciated the smell of me, his heart thrumming loudly against me. The desire to escape became a fleeting memory for a moment - I only meant to pass through, use their area as a way to distract the humans... But, now... "You're safe, Sweetheart - don't be scared of us," he whispered, his voice like gravel as he pressed his nose to my temple. I froze, something in me singing like electricity at his voice this time, his touch became overwhelmingly inciting and warm; my eyes snapped to his. Something jolted through me, recognition and need flooding my heart, I found myself relaxing into his hands, my fear slipping away. He smiled at me, the sight catching my breath, and I blushed when he leaned forward, rubbing his nose across mine. "Mine," he purred, moving to kiss me. I froze, not sure I could deny him and felt myself relax further, tilting my head to meet his lips. A vicious snarl ripped through the air. "Kiss my mate, Jace and I'll kill you." Jace and I looked up, seeing Jaxon glaring at us with a fiery possessiveness. He was covered in blood, but as he pulled off his shirt, wiping his hands on the fabric before he tossed it - I realised none of it was his. I paled at the sight. How strong is he... many did he- "Our mate," Jace said firmly, a smirk twitching his lips like a secret. Jaxon's eyes locked with mine and the feeling fired again, recognition and need - he growled the same word. "Mine." I felt a twist in my stomach, the dull pressure getting worse and my body ignited with fire. I groaned at the sudden sensation - a deep, aching painful burst at the apex of my thighs. I turned into Jace's chest and gripped him, filled with a fire only his touch seemed soothed. "W-what's-" I shuddered against him in a whimper, unable to ask why I felt this way. Why they made me feel this way? I fisted his shirt in my hands as he crouched, the sensation coming in waves. Jace's nose pressed against my ear. "It's okay, sweetie, I got you. Let me just check you." He breathed, his hands caressing my skin gently like he was trying to warm me. "Jax, help me!" I sighed against him, the ache and pain mixing, settling and I shuddered again, feeling his warmth. A second set of hands pressed against me. "Where's it hurt?" Jax muttered, his voice tight and I realised he was repeating what Jace had just asked. The fire intensified in my core and I whimpered, overwhelmed with the need that threatened to burn me alive. "My-ah" the pain - the want to be... His expression softened like he understood, his large hand moving to cup my cheek. "It's alright, Little Flame - we'll take care of you," he whispered. I shook, my mind spinning and my body writhed against Jace, whimpering and gasping as his hands moved, trying to soothe me. But, I struggled, arching towards Jaxon like a magnet being pulled, needing both of them. "I think she has no idea," Jace whispered. Jaxon's eyes watched me. His large hand cupping the side of my cheek with ease, a whimper leaving me at his touch as he run his thumb against my skin. "Do you know who we are, little one?" He asked gently, patiently. I groaned, arching slightly and pressed into both of them as best I could, my only relief. "Alphas..." I answered in a whimper. Jace scowled, picking me up as they both stood. "We should take her straight home." He handed me to Jaxon, my arms curling around his neck and he sighed contently as I fit into his large arms. He squeezed me, tenderly. "Is that okay?" Jaxon asked in a whisper against me, his voice rough with emotion as he inhaled my scent, smelling for blood. "Pain." I whimpered. Jaxon pressed me further in to his hold. "We're sorry," I arched in pain, his arms anchoring me against him. "Why?" I sobbed. Jace answered. "It's your Heat, baby." His voice was pained. I didn't understand, only that their touch brought relief to the... The throbbing need. Jace pressed against the exposed side of me and I sighed, his warmth and touch eliciting a pitch I tried to stop. "Can you tell us your name, Sweetheart?" He nuzzled into my cheek, his hand stroking my arm and his unsettled breathing matching my own as he inhaled my scent, even covered in a layer of dirt - I swear I could smell my own arousal. Jaxon dipped his head, pressing his nose into the side of my neck. A low rumbled started in his chest, primal and lustful. I pressed my neck against his nose, moving my cheek to nuzzle Jace as I answered. "Melody Chance." I sighed, wanting to pull them closer. "Melody." Jaxon raised his head, giving me a small smile. Jace stroked my hair with a loving pat, making me arch and whimper as their touches pushed the ache in my core to pulse. "Ugh!" I cried, my skin on fire and my clothing suffocating me. Jaxon's hands tightened on me. "We need to get her out of here." He growled, tucking me easily into his muscular chest. Jace nodded once, seeming to have stopped breathing. "She smells so strong, pheromones like this are dangerous." Another rumble vibrated as I nuzzled into Jaxon, feeling him move. "Baby, don't." He said through gritted teeth. I whimpered, hating he wanted me to stop. I needed his touch like I need oxygen. His reject hurt, stinging my heart like a lash of a whip. His hands squeezed me gently, almost like he knew what I was feeling. Jace headed into the forest. "Den's the safest place." Jaxon shot him a glare. "Hands off her until she's comfortable and warm!" Jace grinned. "I'll do what she tells me to do, when she tells me - including her." He stated, glancing at me and winking. I blushed, my core throbbing with need.
