1.Love at first sight
The clatter of rain on the cafe window was the soundtrack to Amelia's solitude. Huddled over a steaming mug, she sketched fantastical creatures in her notebook, their vibrant colors a stark contrast to the dreary London afternoon. A melodic chime announced the arrival of a new customer, pulling her gaze from her fantastical world.
He was everything a rainy day shouldn't be - sunshine personified. His smile crinkled the corners of his eyes as he brushed raindrops from his windblown hair. He ordered a latte, his voice a warm baritone that sent a shiver down Amelia's spine. Their eyes met for a fleeting moment, his surprise mirroring her own. He offered a shy smile, then disappeared into a worn copy of "Moby Dick."
Intrigued, Amelia stole glances. He read intently, occasionally highlighting passages. A sudden gust of wind sent his book fluttering. Without thinking, she reached out, catching it just in time. Their fingers brushed, sending a jolt through her. He looked up, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
"Thank you," he said, a hint of a foreign accent gracing his words. "I seem to have misplaced my bookmark."
Amelia's cheeks flushed. "No problem," she mumbled, unable to tear her gaze away. "I, uh, like whales too."
The corner of his mouth lifted. "Perhaps," he said, his voice husky, "they can lead us to a brighter day."
