Chapter One - New Beginings
* Bex's Point of view *
10 years I’d spent with Tim, 10 f*****g years! Why had I stayed that long? I let him push me away from my friends, tell me what I could and couldn’t do all because I thought we were madly in love.
Now here I am with what little I own packed into my small car driving aimlessly as far away from him as I could.
I met Tim when I was 17 years old and fell head over heels in love with him, tall slim with dark hair and intriguing pale blue eyes. He was sweet and caring and never let me out of his sight. As the years went on he became more and more controlling, what I wore, who I went out with, where I worked, he even made me every meal to keep my figure how he liked it.
I kept telling myself it was just because he loved me so much and that if I just tried harder to please him it would get better.
Then for the first time since we had been together, Tim had to go out of town for work, he left me at home with strict instructions. At first, I was lost almost as if I had lost a part of me but as the hours wore on I started to feel as though a fog was lifting and suddenly I needed to leave to get out and as far away from his as possible.
Which lead me to where am hours away from the only home I’ve known in the pouring rain.
The dark clouds covered the sky but I could tell nightfall was close and to be really honest I had no idea where I was or where I was going, but something in me was telling me to keep driving so I did.
The rain was really starting to come down now, no a house, mailbox, or street light insight I was in the middle of nowhere and could barely see 10ft in front of me.
Suddenly I noticed a gravel drive just off to the side of the main road so I slowed down and pulled in. I wanted to get away from Tim but I didn’t want to crash so I would just wait here until the rain stopped and I could see better.
I'm not sure how long I was there but at some point, I must have fallen asleep, next thing I know I'm being jolted awake but the sound of someone knocking on the window.
For a moment panic bolted through my body thinking Tim had found me, I opened my eyes and was blinded for a moment but car headlights. I looked out the window to see 2 massive figures standing next to my car. I should have been scared but a sense of calm washed over me when I realized it wasn’t Tim. I sat there for a moment adjusting to the light, it was still raining but not as hard now, I could probably carry on my drive now I thought. Pulled from my thoughts as one of the men spoke.
“Hey, are you alright?”
The voice was deep and stern but friendly enough I thought.
I decided to wind the window down to talk better without shouting.
“Yea I’m fine, sorry I just pulled in here to wait out the rain I must have fallen asleep” I replied
I still couldn’t make out the faces of these men but I could tell they were attractive and very muscular.
The second figure approached my car, he was even bigger than the first guy, my brain instantly thinking about what these men must look like in daylight.
Snapped from my daydream suddenly when the second man said “ Your trespassing on private property” His voice was very deep and sexy but with a hint of pain in it, it threw me for a moment.
“ I'm sorry I didn’t know, I was a bit lost and the rain was making it impossible to see where I was going, I can get on my way now” I replied quietly.
The first man chuckled.
“Sorry about my friend here, he seems to have forgotten his manners, I'm Kurt and this guy is Mike, why don’t you come back to our place, until tomorrow when its light again?
I'm sure all normal women would have kindly thanked them for their offer and hot-footed it out of there, I mean 2 strange men in the middle of nowhere inviting me back to their houses are how all horror movies start isn’t it?!
Yet I found myself saying “That would be nice, I don’t want to be a pain though”
“No trouble at all, follow us” Kurt quickly replied
Although I was sure I heard Mike growl! I'm not sure what I had done to piss him off so much but I was really getting the feeling that he didn’t like me much.
I followed behind Mike and Kurt for what seemed like forever slowly driving along the gravel road, going deeper into what appeared to be a forest, My mind started to wonder if I should turn around now before it was too late and I was killed and buried in the forest never to be found again.
We reached a clearing and started to wind up the side of a hill, then 5 minutes later I found myself driving into the biggest courtyard Id ever seen dimly light by the lights from the house, no house isn’t the right words to describe what I was looking at, it was more like a castle, a big white castle about 3 stories high with big white stone pillars in the entranceway.
I'm not sure how long I had sat there in the driveway just staring but Kurt was suddenly at my door chuckling to himself. Obviously, the look on my face said it all, it was like I stepped into a completely different world and it was breathtaking!
Mike’s Point of View
It was a really pouring down outside today, which was odd for this southern part of the country in fact it's normally hot and dry all year round. I was going over some paperwork as I do every evening in my office, from up here I could see almost our entire pack lands it made it difficult for any unwanted guests on our territory.
As Alpha of Blackwater pack, it was my job to continue the legacy that my family has built over the last 100 years, Protecting and Leading one of the biggest packs in the country it wasn’t always, but for the most part because of our strength and size we were left alone.
It was then I noticed some headlights off in the distance, I watched as they came to a stop and turned off. I sent a quick mind link to some of my best warriors to check it out, I had an uneasy feeling about this and I wasn’t sure why.
Blackwater pack territory was in the middle of nowhere the nearest town was over an hours drive away and then that town was small the closest city was close to 3 hours away no one in their right mind drove out in these parts, there was nowhere to go and nothing to do, so what was this car doing out here?
A few minutes past and I couldn’t concentrate on my work anymore, waiting for an update from the warriors, when I received a mind link from best friend and Beta Kurt.
“Its just some human girl man, she looks like she’s lost, do you want us to move her own or leave her?”
Kurt and I had been best friends since we were babies, trust each other with our lives so if he wasn’t worried about this human then neither was I. She was probably just waiting for the rain to pass anyway.
“Just leave her for a while, if she tries to come down the road further turn her around, but id rather no draw any attention to us being out here if we don’t need to”
The fewer humans that knew about us being here the better, we didn’t like drawing unnecessary attention.
“Gotta man, I'll keep a watch”
I tried to get back to my work but I just couldn’t, for some reason, I couldn’t stop thinking about this girl, I never even met her but I had so many questions, why was she out here alone? Where was she going?
Get it together man I thought to myself it's just a human nothing to worry about! I decided to go work out in the gym, that was always a good distraction.
After about 30 minutes of weights, I decided to check in with Kurt.
“How's it going has she moved on the rain has eased up?”
“Nah man it looks like she’s fallen asleep” Kurt replied, “Should I wake her and move her on?”
“No just leave her, I’m on my way down now, maybe she needs some help” I don’t know why I offered to go down and check on her but part of me just had to make sure she was alright.
I jumped into my jeep, even though it would be faster to run in my wolf form I didn’t want to risk being seen by the human so car it is.
The rain had almost completely stopped now but it was pitch black out, as I drew closer to the car I saw Kurt step onto the road in front. I stopped and jumped out that’s when I felt it “f**k” I said way too loud, startling Kurt, “what the f**k man, what’s going on”
“It can’t be, I've been waiting 31 years to find her and she’s a f*****g human!” My temper was starting to get the better of me now, but how could the moon goddess do this to me. Our pack is strong, with a long line for incredibly strong Alphas and Lunas what would I do with a human mate, how could she rule alongside me when she didn’t even know our world existed!
“MIKE!” Kurt shouted snapping me out of my thoughts.
“Get it together man, if she’s your mate it's for a good reason, the moon goddess would only gift you with someone to make you a better Alpha,” Kurt said using his Beta tone on me only pissed me off more even though deep down part of me believed him.
Kurt knocked on the window waking the occupant, she looked started and terrified to start with, but quickly regained composer.
When she wound down the window her scent hit my like a tonne of bricks, Vanilla and Cinnamon It was sensual and beautiful, and was driving my wild.
Before I knew it, Kurt was inviting her back to the packhouse, surely she would have some common sense and not take up the offer from to strange men.
“That would be nice, I don’t want to be a pain though” as I heard her say the words I growled why would she be so stupid to accept the offer!
The next few hours were going to hell, having her scent in my home it was going to take all my strength to ignore her.
As soon as we arrived at the packhouse I marched straight inside leaving Kurt with our new guest, I linked my Little sister Nina who was Kurt's mate, she could deal with the guest for the next few hours and I could stay out of the way until she was gone. “Nina, we have a guest look after her, set her up in one of the guest rooms” I closed the link before she could question me, I didn’t need her iteration right now and besides I’m sure Kurt would fill her in.
Now to have a strong drink and forget about this mess!
