Chapter Eight Stacey heard a knock at her door later on that night and hurried over to answer it. It had been almost six hours since Charlie had stormed out of the house. She had been by the window, straining to see when he was returning. She had gone up to her room right after Charlie had rebuffed her. She found herself crying, which only made her feel stupid. Was it silly of her to have thought something from their fight earlier would have sunken into that thick skull of his? She had just wanted to be there for him, to lend support to him. The fact that he had rejected her hurt more than Stacey had expected. So it was with hope that she hurried over to the door and opened it. To her bitter disappointment, it wasn’t Charlie, but Eric. The disappointment was so strong she could taste it
