CHAPTER 31 TIME-OUT The shiny glint of the knife blinded her. Her muscles tensed and she clutched at her throat, gasping for air. She squeezed her eyes shut but the sound of the slicing knife made her wince and throw up. “Help me,” she said. “Please help me.” Lisa woke up in a cold sweat, her breathing erratic. Her wrist ached. She looked at it and found fingernail marks around her wrist. She must’ve hurt herself during her nightmare. She pressed her hands over her cheeks and opened her eyes to her bedroom. She was safely tucked in her bedroom, no longer in the chaotic war of Africa where only darkness had gloomed. Where only pain and heartache resided.
