CHAPTER 39 DEEPER TRUTHS Lisa watched as Johnson rose from the couch and paced. He looked pained. She gently touched him on the shoulder. “I’m sorry,” he said. “What’s going on, Johnson? Did I do something wrong?” The silence was unnerving but she kept waiting, hoping and praying that he wouldn’t reject her. She realised she wanted him in her life, more than she cared to admit. She ached to have him close to her again. Johnson led her back over to the couch. “I don’t want to rush this. I’ve always rushed headlong into relationships and they never lasted.” Lisa fiddled with her hands. “That’s fine, Johnson. We don’t need to rush into anything. But . . .
