CHAPTER 12 CRUEL REMINDER Lisa sipped her tea then set it down on the kitchen table. Her hands shook. Julie gave her a reassuring smile and waited. Clasping her hands gently in front of her, Lisa cleared her throat and recounted her latest letter. “I wish I knew who was doing this, and why. I never intentionally hurt anyone, Julie, and I’ve never made a mistake as a nurse. Not once. Who could it be?” Julie looked over at the coffee table. “Is that it? Over there?” Lisa nodded, a numbness penetrating her body. “I don’t understand it. At all.” Julie rose and picked up the letter. Quickly, she read it. She drew back in shock, turned to Lisa. “Who the hell’s this? And how long has this been going on?” Lisa sighed. “I had a previous letter to that one but I don’t know who’s sending them.
