CHAPTER 7 DARKNESS Lisa stepped into the kitchen of the African Foundation building on her usual Saturday morning. There were a number of newly arrived African Australians preparing themselves a hot drink during their class break. She sat at the table close to another volunteer, Mary, who was short and petite and was also a literacy tutor. She had the bluest eyes of anyone she’d ever seen. Lisa started off teaching beginners English but was now teaching advanced English for those settling into the country. She enjoyed making the classes interactive with a range of videos, audio text, conversation, team activities, and grammar games.
