CHAPTER 10 FIGHTING DEMONS The day after the funeral, Johnson dived into his swimming pool at home. His long, athletic legs glided through the rippling water, his taut muscles pushing him from one side of the pool to the other. His heart was on fire and swimming was the only thing that soothed him. He had started swimming not long after his father had left him and his mother. Johnson’s aunt had decided it would be therapeutic and she had often taken him to the pool. At the time, it was a way for him to cope with his father’s abandonment. He’d swim at least once a week, or sometimes more often if the need arose. The water calmed him then and now.
