Chapter 18“I bet she’s going through detox,” Holly says Friday night when Emma calls to ask her what she thinks is up with Angie Byers. “That’s why she’s so agitated. It’s a classic symptom of opioid withdrawal. That and nausea and body aches, vomiting … it’s not much fun, from what I hear.”
Emma considers this. “So Angie’s trying to detox from painkillers and at the same time learn how to quilt?”
“Maybe it’s a distraction for her,” Holly suggests. “Something to keep the mind off how her body’s feeling. Something she can do in a safe place — the house she grew up in.”
