Prologue: And we get together
There was silence. Samantha blankly watched the family in front of her while beside her beloved parents. The two groups had stared at each other minutes after the Cortez family had stormed inside their house while grabbing their unwilling son's wrist as if a kinder being forced to tell the bastard who bullied him inside a classroom. After that, the family were faced to face. Evelyn had prepared some tea for refreshments as the quiet atmosphere remained in tatters and still waiting for the brave one to begin. And that's where Mrs. Cortez entered, clearing her throat on purpose, taking all our attention as she began to speak. "We're here in your residence to place a complaint." she said strictly while posturing authority inside the house.
Samantha's mother politely nodded with an angelic smile, obviously not getting any chills from the professional woman in front of her as though it had posed no threat in her own territory. "The family are all ears to what you would want to tell, Amanda." she replied casually, confidently calling mrs. Cortez's name without any attached madam in it that the woman didn't like.
"Mom." Zack called her mother in tone of complaint while he shoved her shoulder to try and stop her from what she's going to talk about. The boy had thick glasses on, his hair combed side-ward with the help of a pomade and was dressed in a white longsleeve, paired with black pants and leather shoes. And from the sound of him, he didn't seemed to want her to continue her complaint which Samantha's parent's noticed and somewhat registered a clue.
"Hush, Zachary." She demanded. "And as I was saying. This is about your daughter, Samantha."
With that, Samantha's father quickly leaned forward, preparing to speak. "Well, Madam Cortez, we apologize if Samantha did something. Please understand, she's--"
"No, no." Amanda quickly interluded, arching her hand abruptly and making her palm face Samantha's father. "I want Samantha, to marry my son now." she straightly said like placing all the spices in one plate. And those words exactly are what shut the atmosphere again, but now not of awkwardness, but of shock as Samantha's parents faced her jaw dropped.
"This... this is completely out of line, Amanda. What did Samantha do?" Evelyn muster up all her sanity as she looked at the woman with a million question painted to her face.
"She kissed my son." Amanda straightened making them sigh in relief. "And apparently, slept with him." and it hit their throats again. As if swallowing a fish bone and rice that got stocked from their necks.
"Mom..." Again, Zack spoke with his complaining tone. "I told you that was just some kind of co-incidence." He tried to defend in Samantha's place. He was wondering why she wouldn't say something about it to clear her name, or she might be expecting the boy to explain it himself since he's the one who technically knew what really happened.
"No, no. That is not acceptable, Zachary Cortez. When something happened, you cannot make the witnesses say nothing did." She turned to Samantha who quietly stared back at her. "You very well know what you did, right?" she asked disapprovingly.
"Yes. But do you know what you're trying to imply, ma'am." she replied back. Finally speaking a whole sentence as she clashed stared with mrs. Cortez.
"I am. It is a displeasing sight to see my son losing his innocence just because you forced him to--"
"She didn't, mom."
"And as a parent, it's unacceptable to just do nothing."
"And as a parent, I cannot afford you accusing Samantha. At least listen to her side." Evelyn protested.
The woman pursed her lips turning back to the girl who still stared at her. Now she was beginning to feel self conscious that Samantha might have found an awkward flaw in her face that made her stare that much. "Fine then." she agreed. "Tell me, girl. What do you have to say to yourself."
Zack met her eyes too, pleading her to at least tell his mother what happened, but she didn't seem to see it that way. Her thoughts were occupied with something else that she didn't even know what they were talking about and have no clue what answer to give. "I don't know what happened." she replied.
"What?!" Zack dramatically exclaimed after her respond. And nothing of these events bothered her from the slightest. "You can't be serious, Sam?" he said stressed, moving his hands nonsensically while trying to convince Samantha to at least remember a thing or two. Because even if he explains, it's still not good enough for Amanda and if she could at least explain, the testimony is stronger and they'll both get out of the mess safely.
