CHAPTER 001
Madison Blake hid beneath the bed while her heart raced uncontrollably.
Heavy breathing and whispered words echoed through the dim hotel room above her position. She tried to control her breathing by making fists, but she remained unprepared for the devastating revelation that unfolded in front of her.
Your fiancée remains unaware of your actions, so why do you worry?
"Relax. She’s just a flight attendant. She departed for Argentina at dawn today.
The voice that she recognized instantly made her skin prickle. Adam. He was the one who benefited from all the sacrifices she made. The voice, which belonged to a woman, left her completely bewildered.
Brielle?
Her stomach twisted. She tried to convince herself she misunderstood the situation because this seemed like an evil prank. The reality stood before her eyes as she heard whispered laughter and disheveled bed sheets.
Two years. Adam Smith received two years of her dedication. She abandoned her successful TV anchor position to become a flight attendant because she wanted to stay near him. Her best friend stood beside Adam Smith while he concealed his dishonesty from her.
The tears threatened to spill from her eyes, but she held back her emotions completely. She pressed her nails into her skin to prevent herself from speaking. Her entire body craved to shout out their secrets and force them to answer her questions. She refused to let them see how their betrayal had destroyed her.
The sound of sheets moving against each other sent her heart racing. Adam and Brielle left the bedroom to use the bathroom while running water filled the room. This was her chance. With slow movements, Madison crawled out from beneath the bed before running toward the exit.
“Who’s there?”
She froze. Adam’s voice was sharp and suspicious.
Madison's eyes moved rapidly across the hallway. A nearby door stood slightly ajar. She rushed into the room without thinking and held herself against the wall while her breathing became shallow as footsteps drew near.
Seconds felt like hours. Then, the footsteps retreated.
She exhaled shakily. Safe—for now. But her relief was short-lived. A sudden wave of dizziness swept through her body while her vision became blurry. Her limbs felt heavy, sluggish.
What’s happening?
Then it hit her.
The water. She drank from a bottle in Adam's bedroom before preparing his birthday surprise. Had they—
The bathroom door opened before she could understand what was happening. A man with broad shoulders and a tall stature emerged from the bathroom while wearing a towel around his body. His dark, wet hair fell across his forehead as water droplets ran down his muscular torso. He gazed intently at her.
“You?”
Madison blinked, struggling to focus. She recognized his face, but her confused mind failed to identify him.
The man’s brows knitted together. He stared at her while showing no signs of what he was thinking.
A tall man with broad shoulders emerged from his room while wearing a towel around his body.
Madison held onto the dresser while her body shifted slightly. She had no answer. No excuse. She felt a strong need to erase all memories from her mind, including those of Adam and Brielle, as well as the painful emotions that tormented her.
She stepped forward.
“Help me.”
The man didn’t move. “With what?”
She abandoned her bag and removed her heels before walking toward him. Her hand touched his muscular arm, which felt both firm and warm. His body remained steady as he watched her approach without moving. She observed him with both interest and wariness.
“Madison.”
His voice sounded like a warning as he spoke.
“Shhh…” She placed her finger on his lips while her eyes moved between his.
He was handsome. Dangerously so. His presence created a rapid heartbeat in her body, yet she did not experience fear. It was something else—something reckless.
His lips curled into a smirk. “Are you sure?”
She didn’t hesitate. She reached for his face with her hands before drawing him closer to kiss him. A combination of anger and desperation and an unnamed emotion burst into flames within her. He paused briefly before drawing her body tightly against his.
The world blurred.
Two hours later, Madison stirred.
Warm sheets. She felt a steady rise and fall of breath beside her. The memories hit her with overwhelming force.
Her heart pounded. What had she done?
She turned her head. The man rested next to her with his eyes shut while his face appeared peaceful. The man appeared more familiar than ever, but she remained unable to identify him.
She carefully moved out of bed without making any noise, ready to put on her clothes. She needed to leave immediately to prevent worsening her situation.
She took money from her purse and then set the bills on the nightstand before departing. She made this absurd payment because she lacked any other method to explain the situation.
The door mechanism locked itself after she left.
Logan Pierce slowly opened his eyes in the completely silent room. His eyes shifted toward the cash sitting next to him. A subtle grin appeared on his face.
The moment Madison reached the end of the hallway, her phone started ringing. She paused to check the phone display.
You specifically asked me to monitor Adam, so why are you calling now? The crew organized a birthday gala for him last night. He immediately returned to his bedroom after leaving the room. So well-behaved.”
The pressure of her grip increased on the phone. The message was from Brielle.
A harsh chuckle escaped from her throat. So well-behaved? The audacity.
She turned her gaze toward the hotel room door, which now stood shut while her thoughts raced.
Adam would discover that she was more than a simple lovesick girl.
This wasn’t over.
