Episode one
OCTAVIA
"Do not yell at me," I said through gritted teeth. My brother-in-law was foaming at the mouth with anger and I couldn't care less.
"The hell I won't. This is my house, and I can do whatever the hell I want." He yelled.
"That's what this is about, isn't it? You can't stand me living here because you are mistreating my sister."
"That is not true and you know it."
His veins were comical as they bulged on his forehead. If I wasn't so angry, I would be laughing right now.
"Right, because you are the poster child for the perfect husband?"
"I won't stand here and be insulted by you. Paris, warn your sister or I won't be responsible for any of my actions." He yelled at my sister.
She stood to the side with her hands folded across her chest like she wanted to disappear.
"I hope you are not threatening me, Henry. That would be stupid." I narrowed my eyes at him.
I wanted to comfort my sister but this jerk needed to be put in his place. He has gone too far this time.
"Warn her, Paris." He said before leaving the room.
My sister stared at me through glassy eyes, I should go comfort her but I was just so angry at her right now.
"Octa.."
"Don't," I raised a hand to stop her. "Just don't," I said as I walked out.
I didn't know where I was headed but the walk made me feel a whole lot better. I walked till I got to my favorite bar.
"Hey, can I get a beer?" I asked the bartender.
"Sure,"
"You know what, get me your strongest."
He nodded, leaving me to my thoughts. He returned shortly with my drink.
I threw the drink back, wincing when it burned my throat.
"Jesus, what is this?" I asked Ben, the bartender.
"It's absinthe, the strongest we have."
"Keep it coming,"
He supplied the drinks endlessly, I couldn't feel my face anymore. I was drunk.
This is the first time I have ever felt so angry at anyone. Henry made me want to murder him. The way he treated my sister even though I was there made me feel like taking her out of that marriage.
But she won't let go, not for herself but for George. My nephew, George.
I groaned, I was having a hard time pulling myself together.
"I am cutting you off," Ben said as he slid the last glass across.
"I know I should but I can't help myself." I slurred out the words.
Ben shook his head as I knocked the last drink back.
"One glass of scotch, please."
I looked in the direction of the voice and felt my throat seize. Beside me was the most handsome man I have ever seen. His body was built like he was sculpted by Michaelangelo himself.
"You know, it's rude to stare." He turned to me.
If I wasn't sitting, I would have fallen on my knees. His eyes were the epitome of beauty, a mixture of steel and softness I have never seen before.
"Sue me," I shrugged at the handsome stranger.
He leveled me with a look before taking his seat. I faced my drink, I had no intention of starting a conversation with him.
"I have no intention of doing that." He said as he took a sip of his scotch.
"Are you always this formal?" I asked,
He was dressed in a suit, I assumed it was his work suit.
"I apologize, it's been a long day for me."
"Me too, my brother-in-law is a pain in my ass."
I should have stopped right there, any sensible person would have but for some reason, the alcohol gave me the courage I needed.
"Tell me more about this brother-in-law of yours." He mused.
"Well, since you insist," I said with an eye roll.
I rambled on about the fight that happened earlier as he listened and knocked back more of his scotch. I was shitfaced and I had no idea what I was doing but this felt good. Talking to a stranger made me feel better.
I stopped talking when I noticed his gaze was solely focused on my face. The blush rose to my cheeks and I found myself stuttering as I returned his gaze squarely.
"Are you listening to me?" I asked, leaning into him and biting my lip.
"Stop that," he growls. I look up shocked to see how close his face is to mine.
"W...what?" I stutter.
"The stuttering, the blushing." He mutters.
His scent fans my face. A mixture of vanilla and cologne, a delicious yet dangerous combination. It's driving me insane.
On impulse, he reached out, and in one quick move, he nipped the clip out of my hair.
For heaven's sake. I skimmed my fingers through my hair in an attempt to smoothen the mess he made.
I made a grab for the clip, "hey, give that back."
"No, I like it down anyway." He grinned, raking his fingers through my hair again to ruffle it.
"Now, this is a better look on you. Just a little tumbled, very sexy, especially with that bite of temper in your eyes and a pout on your lips."
" I don't pout,"
"You are not the one looking at your mouth," his gaze lowered to it, lingering there for one long moment.
After a minute of staring into his eyes, "I like your lips," he murmured.
He leaned in further, "in fact,"
"Wait," I pressed a hand to his chest. It was foolish of me but I had no idea how we got here one thing was clear, I wanted this.
"We have already done the waiting part." He closed a hand around me and cupped the other around the back of my neck, lowering his lips to mine.
The kiss knocked the wind out of me, making me struggle for air. He broke it off.
I decided I wasn't going to be that kind of girl, I opened my out to tell him off and instead I found myself saying,
"Let's get out of here."
