Tracy’s world crumbled the night her brother was taken. With nowhere left to turn, she found herself cornered by Alex Carter — the cold billionaire every woman feared yet secretly desired.

He didn’t offer her love.
He didn’t promise her safety.
What he demanded… was her signature.

One contract. One year. One marriage built on lies.

But as Tracy steps deeper into Alex’s dangerous world, she discovers his secrets run far darker than she imagined. Enemies are watching her every move, his past threatens to consume them both, and her heart refuses to obey the one rule he set from the beginning: Don’t fall in love with me.

She signed his contract to save her brother…
But what happens when the price is her soul?

CHAPTER 1
The rain fell in sheets across the city, washing neon lights into glittering rivers that streaked the glass walls of the hotel lobby. Tracy Morgan tightened her grip on the strap of her handbag as she stood before the elevator, her heart pounding so hard it echoed in her ears. She shouldn’t be here. Every step from her tiny apartment to this luxury tower had screamed at her to turn back. But her landlord’s threat still lingered like a ghost in her mind: One more week, Tracy. No excuses. Pay up or pack out. The elevator chimed, its doors parting to reveal a sleek interior of polished steel and velvet. She stepped inside, pressing the button for the top floor with trembling fingers. The ride was silent, except for the hum of machinery and the thunder outside. By the time the doors slid open again, her palms were slick with sweat. Alex Knight’s world was not hers. He belonged to the papers, the financial magazines, the whispered conversations in crowded cafés. Billionaire. Titan. Cold as stone. Men like him didn’t meet women like her—unless there was something in it for them. And he wanted something. She entered the suite slowly. The room was dim, lit only by the warm glow of a fire and the amber reflections from the bar. He stood there, waiting for her. Alex Knight in the flesh. Tall, impossibly composed, dressed in a charcoal suit that fit like sin itself. His eyes, the sharp gray of a winter storm, lifted to meet hers as though he had already stripped away every layer of defense she thought she had. “Miss Morgan.” His voice was smooth, steady. Not a greeting. More like an acknowledgment. Tracy swallowed hard. “Mr. Knight.” He gestured toward the chair across from him, a silent command more than an invitation. She obeyed, setting her bag down and folding her hands in her lap to hide their trembling. “You know why you’re here,” Alex said, sliding a folder across the table toward her. Her throat tightened. She did. She had rehearsed this moment a hundred times, and still the sight of that folder made her blood run cold. Inside it was her salvation—and her damnation. “I need you to sign,” he continued. “And in exchange, your debts vanish. Your future… secured.” She dared to glance at the folder but didn’t touch it. “And in exchange, I pretend to be your fiancée.” His lips curved in the faintest shadow of a smile. “Not pretend. Become.” The word pressed against her chest like a weight. Tracy shook her head. “This is insane. I don’t even know you.” Alex leaned back, swirling the drink in his glass. The ice clinked softly. “You don’t need to know me. You only need to play your role. Appear at my side. Smile when the cameras flash. Convince the world I am no longer the ruthless bachelor they think I am.” “And when the contract ends?” she asked, her voice small but sharp. “Then you walk away,” he said simply, “wealthier than you could have ever imagined.” Her heart hammered. It was supposed to be simple. Sign the contract, play the part, survive. But something in his tone, in those cold gray eyes, made it sound anything but. Tracy’s hand hovered over the folder. She thought of her landlord’s threats, the empty cupboards at home, the endless rejection letters piling on her desk. She thought of her younger self, bright-eyed and full of hope, who never could have imagined standing here now. She should leave. But her fingers curled around the pen anyway. She forced her name onto the dotted line. The ink bled smoothly across the paper—final, irreversible. Alex Knight’s lips twitched in the faintest smirk. “Good.” With one motion, he closed the folder and set it aside as though her entire life had just been reduced to a business transaction. To him, maybe it had. But to Tracy, it felt like selling her soul. “What happens now?” she asked quietly, her voice betraying the tremor in her chest. Alex raised his glass, the firelight catching on the amber liquid. “Now, Miss Morgan—” he paused, deliberate, dangerous “—you belong to me.” The words sank into her skin, searing, impossible to ignore. She swallowed, her pulse racing as the room seemed to close in around her. He studied her reaction with the precision of a man who had spent his life dissecting weakness. And when she looked away, unable to bear the intensity of his gaze, he smirked again—this time sharper, darker. “You’ll move into my penthouse tomorrow. My assistant will send instructions. The first press release goes out within twenty-four hours. After that…” His eyes narrowed, catching hers with a sudden ferocity that made her breath catch. “…you are mine to present to the world.” Tracy sat frozen, her heart battling between terror and defiance. She had signed. She had agreed. There was no going back now. But as Alex Knight lifted his glass to his lips, those storm-gray eyes never leaving hers, a single thought burned hotter than all the others— She had just stepped into a world where escape might be impossible. And Alex Knight… had no intention of letting her out alive.
