Alissa dipped her spoon into the bowl, pulled out a big chunk of berry- covered cake, slipped it into her mouth, closed her eyes, and leaned back into the pillow. “Ohhhhh.” She moaned, eyes still closed as she savored the moment. “That is heaven.”
I followed with a spoonful for myself. Like Alissa, I closed my eyes and let the delicious concoction play with my taste buds. “That is really good,” I said as I opened my eyes to see Alissa laying there beaming at me with a peaceful smile.
“Ronnie, let’s don’t fight anymore,” she said.
“Let’s don’t,” I mirrored as I leaned over to give her a peck on the lips. I then dropped my spoon in the dessert bowl, took her hand, and gave a little squeeze. She squeezed back and said, “Ronnie…we’re parents. We’re Mommy and Daddy. How does that feel?”
