I was a total nervous wreck when Ariel was born. It was not just nervous father syndrome or being afraid I might break her. I couldn’t get it out of my mind how some man might do to her someday what I did to women, how some man might cheat on her someday the way I cheated on Alissa. The older she got, the more frantic I became about it. I didn’t want to let her out of my sight, but I had work to do and much of it was on that stupid bus with the crew, gallivanting from one city to another. I began to grow weary of preaching on the road.
Momma adored Ariel and often begged us to come home for a visit. It was certain that Daddy wasn’t going to drive to Nashville, and he had never allowed Momma to drive, so we tried to make trips home at least twice a year. Watching Mo
