Chapter 18: Truth

The lights in the room were off, and it was seemingly empty. Jessica tiptoed around, checking every nook and cranny to make sure he was not in the room. Jessica frowned in confusion when she noticed the room was clean – as in, sparkling clean as if no one had touched it since housekeeping cleaned it this morning. Why then did he want her to come in? Ugh, Jessica groaned to herself. Was it another one of his plans?         To satisfy him, Jessica walked around and tidied up the minor things while complaining to herself. She could have enjoyed the yummy pasts and wine at Aaron's home and spending time with her son, but no! Roger had to ruin her day! Jessica grabbed a rag and bottle of Windex, deciding to clean the windows, which was overkill, but she wanted no chance for Roger to complain. Knowing him, he would complain about a tiny speck of dirt if he found one.   She was wiping away when she noticed a reflection behind her. With her heart in her throat, she turned around. Roger was standing behind her like a robot, still as a statue.   Jessica shook her head and asked, "What are you doing?"   Roger smiled mysteriously, surprised she was not yelling or screaming at him as she usually did when he was around. "Can't a husband watch his wife?"  Jessica thought he was mentally ill or drunk. "What the f**k? What did you say? Are you insane?"   Roger smirked with a knowing look in his eyes. Jessica sneered indifferently, "I think you are delusional or dumb; I cannot decide which.  Do you remember that we got divorced?"     "Uh, uh, uh!" Roger tutted. "That's where you're wrong, sweetie." His knowing smile sent a feeling of fear inside Jessica. "What do you mean?" She asked in an uncertain tone.      Roger turned around and gestured to a file placed on the coffee table, "You can see it for yourself." Jessica looked at Roger with doubt, but Roger smiled again, almost victoriously. He had been waiting for this moment – the moment that would tell her the truth.      Jessica walked over to the table in trepidation and opened the file. It was their divorce agreement. The paper was obviously wrinkled as if someone had held on to it for a long time. But that was not the point. The point was, why was there only her signature on the page?     Roger had not signed his name on it! That meant it did not go to the civil affairs bureau? Their divorce was not valid!?      Were they still married?!      Jessica's hands trembled. The words on the page seemed to dance around as if taunting her. Her mind was jumbled, and her lips seemed glued together. She turned around while trying to keep calm. Roger leisurely leaned on the leather sofa and looked up at her with a sly look. "This…this is not possible. We are divorced!" Jessica's voice trembled as she spoke to Roger.  "We've been separated for three years! Even if we did not get divorced, the relationship ended already. It was enough to ask for a divorce."    Roger burst out laughing and sneered, "Ended? If you recall, you were in my bed a few days ago and quite enjoyed it, I might add." Roger drawled with a mischievous smirk.     Jessica was red-cheeked with rage. Roger continued, "So technically, I am still your husband. And you are still my wife."  "You f*****g asshole!" Jessica pointed angrily at Roger. "You forced me! If…" "If what?" Roger cut her off. "Since you seemed to have forgotten, you were very willing, and in fact, you wanted me to continue f*****g you, didn't you?" Roger spat. "So do not try to play the good little girl here, b***h, because you wanted it as much as I did!" Jessica was shaking in anger, regret, and fear. Which emotion was stronger, that she did not know. He had planned this! He had wanted this all along!    Roger reached out to pick up the divorce agreement she had just thrown on the sofa. He seemed at ease as this was completely fine with him. As if he had known all along. He had, Jessica thought to herself. He had meticulously planned this and took advantage of her knowing she would not be able to back out. He almost seemed proud standing in front of Jessica as if he knew he won the war.         "So, since you are my wife, I want you to follow and do what I say. I will not have you trying to ruin my image." Roger commanded. "Excuse me?" Jessica screeched. "Who do you think you are?" "Do you really want me to answer that?" Roger looked up and smirked. Jessica glared at him as she realized her mistake. Right, he was her husband. "You're f*****g crazy if you think I am going to listen to you!"  Roger turned around and glared at Jessica. He stalked closer and got right up to her face. "You will not go out with any man unless I tell you to!"   Jessica was fuming. So he was allowed to have a girlfriend while they were married, and she could not do anything about it!?   "Go get a f*****g divorce tomorrow then," Jessica snapped.   Roger looked at Jessica and said, "Do you have a boyfriend?"   "You do have a girlfriend, right? Did I ask about her? NO! So, I am not obligated to tell you anything about my personal life, understand?"     Roger stared at her impassively. "We are not getting a divorce." With that statement, he left the file in front of Jessica and was about to walk into the bathroom. "Wait! This is not over! You think you can just drop something like this on me and pretend this is all normal! Is it alright!? In case you did not know, I f*****g hate your guts! So, we cannot be husband and wife!" Jessica yelled loudly behind him.      Roger stilled and stood stoically, listening to Jessica's words. As soon as she finished, he turned around suddenly and ran towards Jessica. She gasped at the sudden change and backed up, a scream about to emit from her mouth. This man was insane. However, before she could say anything, Roger's lips crashed onto hers with vigor, hot, fiery, and passionate. She wanted to pull away before she lost herself, but it was too late. Unconsciously, her lips responded, her senses were seduced, and Jessica could no longer think straight.   Before she could really comprehend what was happening, Jessica found herself on the bed with Roger on top of her, their lips not breaking apart for even a second.
