Once upon a time, there was a deep, lush green forest. One day, all the mosquitoes and insects gathered together.Their faces were filled with sadness and worry. One mosquito said,“Why does no one like us?”Another mosquito added,“We live together in unity, yet people get irritated when they see us. Why?”An insect spoke softly,“But look at the firefly! It’s always alone, yet everyone loves it.People smile when they see its light!”So, they all decided together,“Let’s go and ask the firefly the secret behind its light!”The next night, all the mosquitoes and insects went to meet the firefly. One mosquito said,“Dear firefly, where does your light come from?”Another insect said eagerly,“Please tell us your secret, so we can also become famous like you.”The firefly listened quietly. He knew this was not an easy question. He looked at the mosquitoes and thought to himself:“If I tell them the truth, they might not like it.These mosquitoes pretend to live in unity, but they only suck others’ blood.Wherever they go, they disturb everyone.Their unity lasts only until it benefits them.”Then the firefly looked at the insects and thought:“These insects too feed on others’ hard work. They take away what isn’t theirs.Their togetherness is also driven by selfishness.”But the firefly kept all this in his heart. He knew that sometimes truth must be told wisely —because saying the right thing in the wrong way can hurt more than help. The firefly smiled gently and said,“I received this light from the Supreme Light.”All the mosquitoes and insects were stunned.“The Supreme Light?Where can we find it?”The firefly spoke calmly,“It is everywhere —but to find it, one must have purity of heart, selfless service, and true intentions.”But the mosquitoes and insects didn’t listen to the rest of his words! They only heard one thing:“The light comes from the Supreme Light, and it can be found everywhere!”Instantly, they all rushed away —each one desperate to find it first. Some flew toward electric bulbs, some toward lamps, and some straight into the fire.“This must be the Supreme Light!”“I’ll reach it first!”They collided, burned, and vanished in that very light they chased. They never understoodthat the firefly’s glow didn’t come from bulbs or fire —it came from his good deeds, his humility, his satisfaction, his love for others, and the true grace of the Divine. And even today…when you see mosquitoes and insects circling around a lamp, a bulb, or fire, remember —they are still searching for that same Supreme Light, whose real meaning they never understood.Moral:True light doesn’t come from outside — it shines from within. Those who chase show-off and selfish desirescan never attain real respect or true brilliance. ✨Author – Jaswant Singh Saini, Ludhiana
