CHAPTER 39 “Are you superstitious?” I ask Hee-Man that afternoon as we fill up our sack with rocks. “Am I what?” “Superstitious. Like when you think seeing a black cat will bring you bad luck, or you toss salt over your shoulder if you accidentally break a mirror.” He stares at me like I’ve grown a second nose without realizing it. “Why would I do that?” “Never mind.” I’m still thinking about what happened last night.
