The Call
When her cell phone began to ring, Sonia Bennett had debated letting the call go to voice mail. she was too busy to breathe.
When she saw that the call was from Anita Harrison, one of her two oldest, dearest friends, she decided to give herself a quick, unscheduled break before going out to file a case in court house.
Talking to Anita or Lucy Anthony her Other best friend reminded her that there is a life outside of the prestigious family law firm where she seemed to spend most of her waking hours.Raised with only her twin brother, Sonia has been hungry for a sister and with Anita and Lucy she'd found two. The three has been friends since high school, when they'd met during detention.
"Talk quick" Sonia popped out a small mirror from the middle drawer of her desk to make sure that every silken, shoulder-length, midnight black hair was in place. It saved her a trip to the ladies room. I've got to fly out of the office in less than five minutes.
Are we on for tonight, sure Sonia answered, The pier a neighbourhood bar in Town A has been their designated meeting place since they'd all turned twenty one. The three women makes out time once in a while to go out on a date for drinks and lastest gossip, its their comfort zone.
As she was on phone with Anita, there was a knock on the door and then it opened, her brother Sam, stuck his head in, common Sonia, its getting late, we' ve got to go, he urged. On the other end of the call Anita said: me too, say hi to Sam for me.We will talk later Anita. After ending the call, Sonia tucked the phone into her pocket. As she rose to her feet, she saw unspoken in her brothers eyes. Peter broke up with Lucy, Sam's mouth dropped open "your kidding" , that was my reaction when i heard the news Sonia told him, Poor Lucy, Sam said.
Sam held the door open for her, him and his sister are both heading to the court house, he was getting a ride from Sonia who he admits drives far more reliable car than him.
