The Alpha

Chapter 6

I was standing on in front of an open kitchen that was filled with kids. All kinds of ages and there was more in the living room. How can there be so many kids without a family? There at least has to be one person to care for some of them. There are kids of all ages, from 3-17 if I’m not mistaken.

I walk further in and I noticed that a girl about my age was struggling to get the food to the kitchen swarmed with kids. I rushed to her aid and help.

“Thank you.” She says then looks at me and confusion hits her face.      

“Who are you.” She asks in a kind of a shy tone.       

“I’m Kate, nice to meet you, uhm, what your name.” Her eyes widen.       

“Sorry Luna, I…I’m Jessica.” I shake her hand         

“Call me Kate.” then look to Will       

“We can stay here a little while longer right. How much time do we have? I also hungry so I think we can eat here if we have time and if they don’t mind.”        

“We have 2 hours.” Will responds. Jessica rushes to the fridge and gets something out.

“I can make you something with this meat Luna. What would you like?” I take the meat put it back and turn around.        

“Remember call me Kate and I can wait until everyone has eaten to eat. Don’t want to take a burger that a kid could have.” I look around and the kids are looking at me weird.      

“What’s wrong kids? Why aren’t you eating? Come on eat especially you little ones. You need to get strong and healthy.” As soon as I finish talking, they all rush to get a burger. They are all so adorable.

I walk towards Jessica. “Jessica, can I call you Jess?” I wait for her to answer. “Yes, of course, Lun…”       

“Kate” I say cutting her off. She looks down and nods.       

“OK, Jess can we ta…” and now I’m cut off by Will and his pouted lips. 

“Hey, how come you let her answer. You didn’t give me a choice. You just asked and decided for me after.”          

“William it is.” Is all I say          

“No Will is fine.” I laugh and turn back to Jess.     

“So, as I was saying, can we talk in private.”       

“Of course, Kate.” I smile and follow her to an office.  

She sits on a chair in front of a desk and motions for me to sit behind it. I guess since I’m her Luna it doesn’t matter if it’s her office or not. I ignore her request and sit right next to her with a smile, which she returns. 

“So, I wanted to talk about the kids. I want to get to know each and every one of them. I also want to know what you guys do throughout the year. Actives, holidays, birthdays, everything.” She smiles then starts explaining everything.

I am not happy that they have to share birthday parties but it is kind of understandable since there are so many kids. There actives are mostly playing outside and stuff and going to kid friendly pack parties. They don’t celebrate some holidays, like Christmas, because they don’t have enough for all of the kids. Right now, all I could think about is how these kids got here. They can’t celebrate the holidays we sometimes take for granted. Easter, Halloween, and Christmas are like the most known to kids.

“Why is there so many kids.” Jess looks at me and gives me a small smile.

“Our Alpha took some of them in as part of the pack because they were children. They were either rogue or their family died fighting rogues.” 

That is tough. I stand and open the door slightly to see them playing with Will. I decide from there that I will be helping these kids live their childhood as normal as possible and not as I did. Without holidays and isolated because of fear. No matter what, I will do my best to give to all of them.

I open the door wider and turn to Jess “Thank you Jess. I will come by tomorrow ok.” She nods and I head to Will.

We left and the walk back to the pack house was silent. I was thinking of a plan. When I see the packhouse is in view I turn to Will. “Tomorrow. Mall. 11am. Bring Jess.”        I say before walking to the kitchen.

His sister gives me the food and I walk to Liam’s room with the tray. Once I’m there I hear the shower, so I wait and put the tray on the nightstand. While I wait, I look around and see a picture of Liam with James and Will. Liam looks younger. 

“What the hell are you doing here?” I turn to face a very angry Liam.        

“I brought you food and I want to talk about an important matter.” He steps closer to me and says. “You f**k’n put me to sleep and now your all ‘we need to talk’.” Well that was rude of him.       

“First of all, yes I did put you to sleep, I take responsibility for that, but you were being unreasonable, and you looked like shit.”         

“And now you insult me”         

“Well it’s the truth. I thought you needed rest and not to be bickering with me because that only made you look worse so I put you to sleep, got you food for energy, and after that we can talk, OK. And by the way I don’t regret doing it because you look much better now.” I cup his cheeks with my hands and finish saying.     

“You look healthier.” I take my hands back and walk to the door to let him get dressed and eat. Before I’m fully out the door I turn          

“I’ll be waiting downstairs.” With that I continue to head down to the kitchen. All that talking with Jess I didn’t get to eat. 

Like if on cue Liam walks in the kitchen right when I take my last bite of food. I know he is not the man that he pretends to be. I have been where he is. Pushing people way because I was afraid of losing them. I know I can get through to him. It will take time, but I will do it. 

Liam’s POV

When she was going on about her doing it because I looked like ‘s**t’, I couldn’t be happier. I was acting like a jackass and there she was taking care of me. I really don’t deserve her. When she cupped my cheeks I felt, I don’t know how, I just know I never wanted the moment to end. When she pulled away, it took all of me to not pull her into my embrace. She was going to wait for me, so I hurried to change and eat. I found her in the kitchen stuffing her mouth with a last bite. She is so adorable.

When she was done chewing, I motioned for her to follow me to my office. I was heading to my seat behind the desk, but she pulled me to the other side of the room to sit on the couch.

“OK, I wanted to talk about the orphanage. There are so many kids in there and they can’t celebrate some holidays and celebrate their birthday all bunched put. I don’t think it’s right they are kids after all. And the activities they do are healthy but I know that some of them want something to do with electronics so I was thinking of getting a tv and some games and have them take turns and also only for a few hours because they should still be outside. I also wanted to do that tomorrow. I was going to take Will and Jess to the mall to help and, and what else. Oh yeah, I wanted to invite all the kids here in like a week so that we can make homemade pizzas and I’ll make baked goodies.” She took a deep breath and I couldn’t hold in my laughter.

“Hey, it not funny. I’m being serious.” She says playfully hitting my arm.         

“Ok, I think that’s a good idea.” Is all I say, but the smile it gives her makes me happy and the hug makes me feel overjoyed.       

“OK well I’m gonna go to sleep now.”         She pulls away and gets up.      

“Oh, and tomorrow is Friday, right? Yeah, ok so this office is a mess and after the mall and hanging with the kids we are gonna clean.”          

“No, no, no I have everything placed in order to how I need and it’s easy to find.” She grins and walks out. I’m left here doing paperwork I haven’t done.

The next day after Kate came back from the orphanage.

I was in the office all day and when I took a break, I saw Kate come in with a smile from ear to ear. “Hey, how was your day.”  

I didn’t want to answer because it feels like one of those questions loved one ask each other and I don’t want to hurt her when the truth comes out. If I act like an ass she might give up. The idea made my heart arch but its better she leaves sooner than later when I’m more attracted or now when I’m not. I didn’t answer and just walked past her, her face showing a pained expression.

I went to my room and 30 minutes later walk back to my office to finish the last of the paperwork. When I’m in front of the door I hear noise and try to open the door. No one is supposed to be in there without me or without my permission. I can’t open it and it doesn’t break. 5 minutes of me trying to open the door and Kate comes out. I walk in to find my office all cleaned up.          

“I thought I said no, how I’m I suppose to find anything.”         

 “It will be easier to find everything.” She then run out and leaves me to struggle on finding the work I have left.

Kate’s POV

One week later

Making pizzas with the kids was fun it went well, and I made a lot of snacks for after. We all watched movies while eat our pizzas and right now I’m in the Liam’s office again.

I just finished cleaning Liam’s office. I swear he is so messy when it comes to his office. In this past week I have already cleaned it 3 times, and I have to lock the door every time. I’m looking at the paperwork he decides to neglect until last minute. It’s a lot. I know, pretty much how he does things because of all the papers I have gone through. So, I sit and begin to work on the big stack of papers. I take a few hours, but I finally finish and leave the office. Liam rushes in the office and then out.             

“Where is the stack of paperwork? I need to do it.“          

“I already did it. I left it on the side so that you could look over it but for the most apart its done.”

He looks mad and I don’t know why. I just tried to help him out.

“You do not have a right to do the paperwork and you know what, you don’t even have permission to enter in the office. You are only the Luna in the pack’s eyes not mine, so you don’t have to act the part. Stay out of my office.” And with that he left.

I was just trying to help. He was opening up to me. When the kids came for the pizza and movies, he was there with us and we had a good time, but it seems like every time I get closer to him, he distances himself even more.

I walk to my room and inside my bathroom to take a shower. It’s not until I let the water hit my face that I let the tears fall freely. Maybe I should give up on him and just live my life here. I have become close to Will, Jess and Joe. I think I should bring Rose here. I think she would love it. Thinking of my daughter is the only thing that gets me happy when Liam does this.

Without asking Liam for permission I call my Little Rose and talk to Chris. They will be here tomorrow. I just hope all goes well. And I hope Liam doesn’t do anything crazy.
