CHAPTER 2:

I went straight into my wardrobe and began to pack my belongings, knowing fully well that I had only one friend, my mom and I.

After packing. I climbed my bed but I couldn’t sleep. I silently prayed that tomorrow would get better and God should take away this burden off my shoulder till I dozed off.

I woke up very early the next morning, took my bath, dressed up, and carried my bags down to the living room.

I headed straight to Alex's room to hand him over the files and leave his life, and this sad arranged marriage.

Only to hear some strange noises coming out from Alex's room, i was heartbroken because my so-called husband couldn’t wait till i divorced him before hitting his lover.

But I chose to take this chance in my own favor. I knocked at the door and called out for Alex only for me to find Alex coming from behind, he left to attend to an important person at his office.

He gave me a piercing and lustful look while he moved close to me and I moved backwards till my back reached its limit and he pinned me to the wall.

I became afraid and threw my face away, ‘‘Oh no what does this man want from me why can’t he just let me leave in peace?’’ I said to myself.

Are you scared of me Lillian? You know I haven’t touched you since I married you so a kiss won’t hurt.

He made an attempt to place his lips on mine but was stopped by the noises he heard from his room.

He got confused and headed for the door handle but was shocked! When he saw his lover on top of someone in their room.

‘Shera, Edna he called them in a loud tone’ without saying anything else but expressing his anger through the eyes,

The files in my hand fell to the ground when my eyes came across such a sinful act.

I quickly bent down, grabbed the files, and ran downstairs like a puppy chasing its owner. I sat down on the chair in the living room breathing heavily.

‘I can’t believe what I saw Shera having an affair with her assistant?’ I asked myself. Oh my God, I thought while my panting chest cooled off slowly.

As I relaxed, a certain thought came to my head: ‘‘Why don’t I leave these documents here and leave, since Alex is preoccupied with Shera upstairs?’’

I heard Alex lashing out at Shera so I picked up my bags and hurriedly ran out of the door, so; I entered a bus going to my friend's place.

On my way, I tried calling my only friend Angela so I could stay at her place for some time but she repeatedly declined my calls.

So I got tired of calling when I got to her destination I entered a shop to rest my head only to get a shocking message from Alex ‘‘I will find you Lillian you can’t hide from me.’’

I quickly got up out of fear and moved to Angela’s house. When I got there the security guard refused to let me in because Angela gave such instructions.

I knelt down and began to beg so that the guard could let me see Angela for some time but to my surprise, Angela came out herself.

Angela, I held her hand while I had a hint of joy in my eyes. I Stood up to hug her but she pushed me away. I swallowed my saliva heavily.

‘‘Okay I won't touch you Angela, and I know that I look like a mess right now’’ I said, keeping my space from her, but I need your help. You are the only one I have left.’’

What do you want? Asked Angela. ‘‘Okay Angie, I called her by her nickname. I need a place to rest my head for some time before I get back on my feet.’’

She gave me a look that tells that she was annoyed by my sight before she answered me

I can’t Lillian, she said while she drew back from me, ‘‘I can't be caught associating with someone like you because we are no longer in the same class of caliber.’’

Oh, Angela, I made an attempt to hold her hands but her last reaction made me withdraw.

‘‘I just need a place to rest my head. I promise to pay, things are just rough for me now,’’ please I said with hope in my voice.

Security Please take her outside. Angela's voice was loud and clear, I turned my head only to find her security heading towards us.

I held her hands again but this time while kneeling down ‘‘please Angela my husband just divorced me and I lost my father likewise my mother is in the hospital.’’

I had nowhere to sleep nor did I have a job, tears flowed from my eyes uncontrollably. I need you at this moment. I begged her while still kneeling but her reply brought me more tears.

You can sleep at the homeless shelter provided by the government she let out with no emotion written on her face but a sign telling her security to take me out.

I haven't gotten back from the shock that my childhood friend just ditched me because of caliber only to be brought back to life by the security dragging me out.

I picked up my broken self and headed straight to youth shelters provided by YMCA shelters, I was able to find an empty room.

After getting a room I layed on the bed with my eyes focusing on the ceiling. All my opinions were directed to how to secure a job.

I felt betrayed by Angela and Alex and craved revenge badly. These were my thoughts till I dozed off…

I woke up the next morning feeling like a free bird that doesn’t have to be locked up in a cage by its owner. I packed my bags and headed to the hospital.

Good morning! Mom I greeted her with a smiling face immediately she saw me coming she sat up straight to greet me.

Morning! Lillian, where are you coming from? She asked with her eyebrows raised giving me a questioning look.

I sat down on the hospital bed with her and held her hands while I gazed into her heart through her eyes. ‘’He divorced me, Mom’’ I said with a smile on my face.

But there’s more, Mom; I need to go in search of a job so I can pay him his money and have full access to Daddy’s company.

Paying him what money? she asked me In confusion, I need to go mom I said while I quickly stood up from the bed. I will explain everything when I get back mom.

‘‘I need to check on the companies where I submitted my CV. Oh! make sure you remind me to transfer you to a new hospital for security reasons.’’

I said with a smile on my face to remove the thought from her head before taking my leave.

When I got to one of the companies where I submitted my CV, I was told that the CEO wanted to see me before giving approval for the job application.

I went into his office with joy in my heart but I ran out with my cheat panting heavily because

He tried to r**e me after I refused his approval of having an affair with him before giving me the job.

I stood outside the CEO’s door breathing heavily. thinking if I should accept the offer and claim the job or if I should re-apply to other companies.

Only for me to get messages from Alex that made my heart miss a beat. He sent pictures of him in my mother’s ward.
