The house was silent when I returned… way too silent to be considered normal. Most days, the sound of the TV playing in the background or Garrett and Peter loudly chatting, or even couples busy in their romantic moments filled the air. This kind of complete silence was definitely unusual and a bit concerning.
I sniffed the air once and then twice to make sure no other vampires—the hostile kind—had invaded during my absence. Of course, I was aware that aside from me, the others were exceptionally skilled fighters and thus wouldn’t be in any unjustified situation, but I couldn’t help but be cautious. I saw them as family, and as such, I worried about their safety.
