“My dear Luke, I know that a million thoughts and questions would be swirling in your head right now—the biggest being the reason I’m writing this letter. Believe me when I say that this was a difficult decision to come to terms with. I thought and rethought about it, reflecting on the best way to have this conversation with you, but regardless of the path I chose, I wasn’t getting the favorable outcome I desired. In some likely conversations, everything would go wrong, and no other factor would work. This cowardly way (I admit) was the only way out for both of us. I may have chosen one of the easier exits, this conversation won’t be easy, but know that what I did was for both of us.
