The Moment That Changed Everything
Episode 1: The Moment That Changed Everything
Mia pulled her jacket tighter against the evening chill, her fingers frozen to the edges of her phone. Another text from her mom. Another reminder about homework, work, college plans. She glanced at the screen, half-listening, her mind already in a different place.
The city around her buzzed with life. The subway rumbled beneath the sidewalk, cars honked in the distance, and people hurried past, lost in their own worlds. Mia felt like she was standing still — like a character in someone else's story. The constant movement around her felt like a reminder of everything she hadn’t figured out yet.
She tucked her phone into her pocket, shoving it aside with a sigh. If one more person told her she needed to “get it together,” she might scream.
And that’s when she saw him.
A boy, standing on the edge of a rooftop, silhouetted against the fading orange and purple of the sunset. He looked like he owned the whole city. His dark hair ruffled in the wind, and even from this distance, she could see the carefree smile on his face.
For a moment, Mia forgot how to breathe. She didn’t know why, but something about him felt different — like he was free in a way she couldn’t imagine.

Before she could pull herself together, he was gone.
The next day, when she walked to her usual corner, there he was again — standing on the sidewalk, right in front of her. His eyes locked onto hers, almost like he’d been waiting for her.
He grinned. “You ever just… not care?”
Mia blinked. It was a simple question, but it felt like a spark — a challenge. She opened her mouth to answer, but no words came. Instead, she simply nodded, feeling something in her chest shift.
The boy chuckled. “Well, now you’ve met me. I’m Jace.”
And just like that, the world around her started to look a little less predictable.
