Crossing paths

Episode 3: Crossing Paths Mia’s feet barely touched the ground as she hurried to meet Jace at their usual spot by the park bench. She hadn’t seen him in two days, and though she couldn’t explain it, she felt the absence like a missing puzzle piece. She knew it was reckless, following him the other day without even thinking about it. But now, as she neared their meeting place, she was starting to question her own choices. The sun had set, and the cool night air wrapped around her like a blanket. Her phone buzzed in her pocket — a text from her mom, reminding her about an upcoming family dinner and a list of things she still had to do. She quickly silenced it. The last thing she needed was another reminder of what she was supposed to be doing. “Late again,” Jace’s voice broke her thoughts as he appeared from the shadows, his usual grin plastered on his face. Mia rolled her eyes. “You’re unbelievable.” Jace shrugged, unfazed. “Unpredictable, maybe. But that’s what makes life interesting, don’t you think?” She smirked, fighting the urge to let him drag her into his world of unplanned adventures again. But there was something magnetic about him. Something that made her want to forget about everything — her homework, her future, the endless pressure. “Sometimes, I wonder if you even know what you’re doing,” Mia said, crossing her arms. Jace’s eyes twinkled as he leaned back against the bench, watching her. “I don’t, but that’s the point. I don’t need a map to find my way. I go where the moment takes me.” Mia stood there for a moment, the weight of his words sinking in. She hadn’t realized how much she was tethered to her plans, her routines, her expectations of what she should be doing. She had always believed that control was the key to everything, but Jace seemed to thrive in chaos. And for once, she wondered if he was onto something. Before she could respond, Jace pushed himself off the bench and stretched. “I’m heading to that spot by the water. Wanna join?” Her first instinct was to say no. She should go home. She had a million things to do, and every minute spent away from her responsibilities felt like one more step toward failure. But then she looked at Jace, standing there with that confident, carefree look in his eyes. The same feeling from the other day surged through her again. The urge to step away from everything that was planned and just... live in the moment. “Alright,” she said, surprising herself with the decision. “Lead the way.”
