Chapter Three

Diablo Something was wrong. I could feel it in my gut. Not danger as such , I didn’t feel particularly threatened but then again I hadn’t felt threatened the night I had been shot either. So obviously my senses weren’t at their best. But something was wrong. It was like a shift in the air. Tightening my grip on my beer I turned on my stool, so I was facing the room. Surveying my territory. I let my eyes wander. It wasn’t particularly busy but then the night was still young. It was Saturday night things would pick up slightly even if the summer season was over. Part of me had always hated the summer. Too many tourists. Too many drunk idiots I had no control over. And the girls… well the girls they made the men unpredictable. Just look what had happened to Jett. He had been smitten from the first time he had turned and found her smiling up at him. So even though it meant a loss of takings I was glad Summer was winding down. My eyes did another sweep. So quickly I almost missed her. I did a double take. My eyes raking over her back. She was new. Short dark hair, messed up slightly like she had been running her fingers through it. She wasn’t wearing anything particularly sexy. But her jeans cupped a very nice backside and I let my eyes linger on it for several long seconds. My tiger raised his head, interested in a woman in the first time in months and scented the air. Yeah he definitely liked what he saw. I just wish I could catch her scent not that it mattered. She was playing pool with my sister, it would be easy enough to find out who she was. And I definitely wanted at least her name before the end of the night. “Boss?” Tearing my eyes from the strangers backside as she bent over the pool table I turned back to the bar. “What’s up teddy.” The man grinned. “You seem distracted boss, I’ve been talking for the last five minutes and I don’t think you have heard a word I’ve said.” “Say it again then teddy bear.” I didn’t have the time or patience to deal with Teddy’s constant moaning tonight. Not when there was other prettier things to keep me occupied. Sure I hadn’t seen her face yet but if she matched her front then I was in for a treat. Maybe tourists weren’t so bad after all or maybe she was an old friend of Sarah’s. It didn’t really matter I wanted to know more. He opened his mouth to speak. And I cut him off before I could help myself. “Any idea who the girl is?” A little line appeared between his eyebrows as he parroted “Girl?” “The one with Sarah, dark hair. Killer ass she was playing pool.” I explained. ”Harpers playing pool Diablo. No dark gained girl.” I turned sharply and he was right. Just Sarah and Harper. No dark haired woman in sight. It was almost like I had imagined her. ”Well shit.” I have a small laugh. My own fault for taking my eyes off of her. Should have staked my claim when I first saw her. “Do I get your attention now?” “You sure do beautiful.” I said in a voice that dropped sarcasm as I levelled my eyes at the big bear shifter. “Tell me all your problems.” He paused wiping down the bar. “Isn’t that meant to be my line?” Tipping the bottle to my lips I followed Teddy’s eyes towards the door. Half of me was hoping it was going to be mysterious woman. The one with that perky backside and the hair I wanted to tug on when I f****d her from behind but no such luck. It was Bat and with him was my sister. Narrowing my eyes I stared at them. What ever they were talking about seemed fraught with anger. Bats face was set in hard lines and Sarah seemed to be pleading with him. I hadn’t seen her get overly friendly with anyone which was the usual reason Bat got mad with her. Or her with him for that matter. But there could be no mistaking the anger in his face . It poured from him in waves and the sense of uneasiness returned , more pronounced this time. “What is it?” I called to them , my chin lifting so my voice carried. Sarah turned to me in shock and there was pure panic on her face. She made a grab for Bats arm as he came towards me. “ Don’t do this Bat, please it’s got nothing to do with the club just let her….” He shook off her hand. “We have a problem.” He said simply. “What kind of problem.” “Out in the alley, dragon shaped problem.” I was off my chair in an instant. f**k dragons. This was my territory. Slamming out of the side door, my chest heaving I spotted him straight away. He was pretty hard to miss. Dragons were big even for shifters. And this one was no exception. But he wasn’t alone. A woman was standing in front of him . Her back to me. A woman with short dark hair. As if sensing the danger , he stepped around her. Putting his hulking frame between me and her. “I don’t want any…” I ignored his out stretched hand. I would not take any dragon in my territory. They were the councils creatures and I would not have my people in danger. My fist flew through the air. Cracking against his jaw that would have broken bones in any other man. But this wasn’t a man , this was a dragon shifter and his jaw wasn’t made of glass. “Don’t do that again p***y cat.” His voice was even but his eyes glinted in the darkness. “I am not your enemy.” “Stop it.” The woman slipped between us. Her hands on his chest and jealousy flooded me. It was so unexpected that a growl tumbled from my lips. “Just go Wren, I’ll call you ok. Just….” She turned sharply as another growl fell from my mouth. My tiger clawing to break free if my skin at the sight of her hands on the dragon. And then my eyes fell on her. It was her but it wasn’t. The short dark hair had altered her appearance, she looked younger more vibrant but there could be no doubt. My mystery woman, the one who had made my d**k twitch was no other than the lionless lioness who hated my guts.
