“Okay. You may pick the movie as soon as we finish supper, and you help clean up the dishes.”
He nodded. “Yes, Ma’am.”
Lauren stared at him in surprise. He’d never called here ma’am before.
“That was polite,” she said.
“Grandma Abby told me when she was a kid everybody said, ma’am and sir. I say it to her because she thinks it’s polite.”
“I think it’s very nice,” Lauren said. For the hundredth time, she blessed the grandparents for their influence on Jeffrey.
Right after the dishes were cleaned and the food put away, Lauren’s phone rang. Her sister Lilly was calling. “How are you doing, Sis?” she asked.
