CHAPTER THIRTEEN Abby’s palms were so damp she could hardly keep them on the wheel. She prayed aloud over and again, “Lord, please let him be okay. I’m not ready to lose him.” She reached the emergency room with that prayer still on her lips. Her hand shook as she opened the door and stepped into the emergency room. She had to know if Vic would be all right, yet she was terrified to ask. She approached the front desk and the young woman looked up from the computer screen. “How can I help you?” Abby swallowed hard. “My husband, Victor Avery, was brought in after he went unconscious in our front yard.
