CHAPTER FOURTEEN The next morning, promptly at nine o’clock, Lauren and Jeffrey arrived looking frosty from the cold. No more snow had fallen Most had melted except for a few patches in the yard. Blue sky and sunshine would be theirs for Christmas Day. “Come in. Get warm,” Abby said. “There’s breakfast in the kitchen.” Jeffrey beamed at her. “Mom loved the toaster you took me to get. We tried it out with a slice of toast to split and it worked great.” Abby gave him a hug. “I’m so glad.” “Where’s Grandpa?” he asked. “He’s in the kitchen with a cup of hot tea.
