The moment their eyes met across the nightclub, something ancient turned violent.
Casiel felt it instantly.
Not memory.
Instinct.
A celestial recognition buried deeper than thought itself.
Angel.
But wrong.
Ruined.
Corrupted.
The man standing beside Selene carried divine power twisted into darkness. Casiel could feel it beneath the music and flashing lights-a fallen celestial hiding inside human skin.
And somehow- that angered him immediately.
Noctis felt it too.
The holy presence standing across the nightclub burned like sunlight against old scars.
Heaven.
Of course.
His jaw tightened faintly.
Annoying creatures.
Selene noticed none of it.
Still smirking faintly, she adjusted the strap of her dress before walking toward the bar again, entirely unaware that two immortal beings stood seconds away from tearing the nightclub apart.
Casiel's gaze followed her briefly.
Then returned coldly to Noctis.
The fallen angel tilted his head slightly.
Mocking.
Inviting.
Then turned and walked calmly toward the private exit leading upstairs.
A silent challenge.
Casiel followed immediately.
-
Rain exploded across the rooftop the second the metal doors slammed shut behind them.
Thunder cracked violently overhead while Aurelia glittered beneath storm clouds and neon lights far below.
For several moments neither angel spoke.
They simply stared at one another across the rain-soaked rooftop.
Two predators recognizing another predator.
Casiel broke the silence first.
"You hide inside corruption now?"
Noctis laughed softly.
Deep. Cold. Beautifully cruel.
"And yet here you are standing inside my nightclub."
Casiel's white shirt clung to his body beneath the rain while fury sharpened his expression.
"This place reeks of sin."
"And Heaven reeks of arrogance."
Lightning split the sky behind them.
Noctis stepped closer slowly.
The storm itself seemed darker around him somehow.
"You smell newly descended," he murmured. "How unfortunate for Earth."
Casiel ignored the insult.
"Why are you here?"
Noctis smirked faintly. "Curious already?"
"You abandoned Heaven."
"I escaped Heaven."
The correction came instantly.
Sharp.
Dangerous.
Casiel's eyes hardened.
"There is no freedom in darkness."
"And there is no life in obedience."
Rain poured harder between them.
For one brief second neither moved.
Then Casiel spoke again.
"You are wasting your immortality running criminal empires and sleeping with mortals."
That finally made Noctis laugh openly.
The sound echoed across the rooftop beautifully and terribly all at once.
"You speak as if Heaven created us to be happy."
Casiel's jaw tightened.
"We were created to serve."
"Exactly."
Something ugly flashed briefly across Noctis' eyes.
Not hatred.
Something older.
Exhaustion.
"You celestial creatures always mistake servitude for purpose."
Casiel stepped closer now.
"Do not compare yourself to Heaven."
"Why?" Noctis murmured. "Because I touched humanity and survived it?"
Lightning illuminated black amusement across his face.
"You should try it sometime."
Casiel suddenly froze.
A sharp vision tore violently through his mind.
Selene beneath black silk sheets. Hands tangled in dark sheets. Noctis above her. Her mouth against his throat.
Sin.
The prophecy struck like divine punishment.
Casiel's expression darkened instantly.
Then inhumanly fast-
he grabbed Noctis by the throat.
The rooftop exploded with celestial force.
White wings burst violently from Casiel's back, massive and radiant beneath the storm while holy light tore across the rooftop hard enough to crack concrete beneath their feet.
Noctis' eyes flashed gold instantly.
Then black wings unfurled behind him with terrifying force.
Dark feathers spread through the rain like shadows swallowing moonlight.
The city lights below flickered violently.
"You dare," Casiel hissed.
His voice no longer sounded entirely human.
Power vibrated beneath every word.
"You are an angel. How dare you sleep with a human being?"
Noctis looked almost amused despite the hand crushing against his throat.
Rain slid down sharp cheekbones while black wings shifted powerfully behind him.
Then slowly-
he smiled.
Cruel. Beautiful. Ruined.
"Why," he whispered softly, "do you still expect me to remain pure?"
Darkness spread across the rooftop instantly.
The storm above intensified violently.
"I fell long ago," Noctis continued calmly. "I worship Satan now."
Casiel's grip tightened harder.
"And I shall sin."
The holy light around Casiel exploded brighter.
"That does not mean you drag her into corruption too!"
For the first time- Noctis' expression shifted slightly.
Not confusion.
Interest.
"Her?"
Casiel realized too late.
Mistake.
Noctis' eyes narrowed instantly.
Ah.
So the holy angel had come for the girl.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
Casiel shoved him backward violently.
Noctis slid several feet across the rooftop before black wings snapped outward hard enough to stop the momentum.
Both angels stared at one another through the storm.
Power crackled through the air between them.
"If she is destroyed," Casiel said coldly, "her soul will collapse permanently."
Noctis tilted his head slightly.
"And?"
Casiel looked genuinely furious now.
"She matters."
The silence afterward felt dangerous.
Then Noctis laughed again.
Low. Mocking.
"You barely know her."
"She was marked by Heaven."
"And that gives you ownership?"
Casiel's white wings spread wider.
"I was sent to deliver her soul."
Lightning exploded overhead.
Then quietly-
"If necessary," Casiel finished, "I was sent to kill her."
Everything changed.
The temperature dropped instantly.
Noctis stopped smiling.
For several seconds only rain existed between them.
Then black feathers shifted violently behind the fallen angel.
"You threaten her," he said softly.
The rooftop beneath them cracked.
"And I'll remind Heaven why they buried my name."
Casiel moved first.
Holy light erupted across the rooftop as he launched forward with terrifying speed.
Noctis met him instantly.
The collision shattered concrete beneath their feet.
Shockwaves exploded through the storm while both angels slammed into one another hard enough to send violent winds tearing across neighboring rooftops.
White light.
Black darkness.
Their powers crashed together like opposing worlds.
Casiel struck first-a glowing blade of celestial energy forming instantly in his hand before slashing downward.
Noctis caught the blade barehanded.
Golden eyes glowed violently.
Dark energy exploded outward from his palm before throwing Casiel backward through a rooftop structure.
Steel shattered instantly.
Casiel emerged from the debris seconds later with white wings blazing brilliantly against the rain.
"You've become monstrous."
Noctis' black wings unfurled wider.
"No," he answered coldly.
"I became honest."
Then darkness erupted from beneath him.
Shadow-like celestial flames tore across the rooftop toward Casiel violently enough to melt steel railings in seconds.
Casiel lifted one hand instantly.
Holy light exploded outward.
The two forces collided midair with enough power to shake the entire building.
Windows shattered across lower floors.
Below them, humans screamed in confusion while nightclub lights flickered wildly.
Neither angel noticed.
Casiel charged again.
Noctis met him head-on.
Fists collided hard enough to crack the air itself.
White feathers scattered through rain. Black feathers vanished into storm winds.
Ancient beings tearing into one another with the fury of creatures older than war itself.
And neither understood why hatred came so naturally between them.
