Chapter 1

The Girl Everyone Loved

At exactly 5:30 every morning, Rita Santiago woke up.

Not because an alarm forced her out of bed.

Not because her parents expected it.

And certainly not because she had anything to prove.

She simply believed that every morning was a gift.

Her bedroom occupied the eastern wing of the Santiago mansion, where enormous windows overlooked gardens that seemed to stretch forever. Beyond the gardens stood a private lake, and beyond the lake were acres of carefully maintained land belonging to the Santiago family.

The mansion itself was enormous.

There were marble floors, grand staircases, private libraries, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, guest rooms, offices, gardens, and security buildings.

But Rita's favorite place wasn't the ballroom.

It wasn't the private cinema.

It wasn't even the library.

It was the small garden behind her bedroom.

She called it her quiet place.

At 5:45, she opened the curtains.

Morning sunlight slowly appeared over the horizon.

Rita smiled.

“Good morning.”

She said it quietly, as if she were greeting the entire world.

Then she made her bed.

She arranged her books.

She exercised for thirty minutes.

She showered.

And by 6:45, she was downstairs.

Her mother was already sitting at the breakfast table.

“You're early,” her mother said.

Rita smiled.

“I'm always early.”

Her father looked up from his tablet.

“That's not entirely true.”

Rita laughed.

“Good morning to you too, Dad.”

Her father smiled.

“Good morning, sweetheart.”

A few seconds later, footsteps thundered down the staircase.

Rita didn't even need to turn around.

“Lewis.”

Her twin brother walked into the dining room.

“How did you know?”

“You've had the same footsteps since we were children.”

Lewis pulled out a chair.

“You're saying I walk loudly?”

“Very.”

Their father laughed.

“You two haven't changed.”

Rita and Lewis looked at each other.

Then, at exactly the same time, they said:

“Never.”

Rachel, the eldest Santiago daughter, entered the room and stopped.

“You did it again.”

Lewis looked confused.

“Did what?”

“You answered together.”

Rita shrugged.

“We're twins.”

Rachel smiled.

“Sometimes I think you share one brain.”

Lewis pointed at Rita.

“She has the brain.”

Rita shook her head.

“And he has the trouble.”

Everyone laughed.

For a few minutes, the Santiago family was simply a family.

No business.

No secrets.

No danger.

No tragedy.

Just breakfast.

Rita didn't know that she would remember that morning for the rest of her life.

---

Rita Santiago had been born into wealth.

But wealth had never been her identity.

Her father owned businesses across several countries. The family had estates in Switzerland, France, China, New York, and other places around the world.

They owned three yachts.

They owned a private airplane.

They had access to a private jet.

Their homes were protected by professional security.

Their name opened doors.

Their money solved problems that ordinary people could never afford to solve.

But Rita had grown up hearing something very different from her parents.

“Money is a responsibility,” her father always said.

Not a crown.

Not a weapon.

A responsibility.

Her mother taught her the same lesson in a different way.

“If you have more than someone else,” she would say, “that doesn't make you more important.”

Rita believed her.

Perhaps that was why people loved her.

She remembered the names of employees.

She thanked drivers.

She spoke respectfully to security officers.

She never walked past someone who needed help.

And when people tried to praise her for it, she always became uncomfortable.

“I didn't do anything special,” she would say.

But the people she helped disagreed.

---

At eight o'clock that morning, Rita left the mansion.

Her driver opened the door.

“Good morning, Miss Rita.”

“Good morning, Daniel.”

Daniel smiled.

“Where are we going?”

“The community center.”

“Of course.”

It was one of Rita's favorite places.

She had helped fund the center several years earlier.

Not for publicity.

Not for photographs.

She had simply discovered that children in the area needed books, computers, food, and school supplies.

So she helped.Absolutely — continuing Chapter 2 of Rita Santiago. I’ll keep it cinematic, detailed, and novel-like, with dialogu
