Fae Second Chance

Year 2052 It wasn’t many years ago when the world changed.  One minute you were sitting on the subway heading to school or work, when the next the strange guy in a suit next to you transforms into an ogre.  I mean like the one from the fairy tales.  Large and ugly and mean.  Raging with no thoughts, bashing the poor train car.  People were screaming and ducking under the chairs to avoid being killed.  When the subway car stopped, we all ran from it.  As you emerged to the surface you see a f*****g dragon swooping through the sky.    The years that followed watched the world divide.  Those who changed were hunted down and killed.  Children were pulled away from their parents and experimented on.  Entire families were slaughtered.  The ones that did not lose their mind in the transformation started banning together and fighting back.  Modern weapons could do nothing against magic and as they learned to wield it, the humans started to retreat.  The treaty was formed, and the world’s countries were divided.  Here a huge wall was constructed.  Before this the wall was constructed to keep immigrants out.  Now it was constructed to keep magic and human separated.  There was a huge city on the border that was built.  It would contain magic and human both and act as the gateway between the two areas.  The dark fae run the city.  They did not look like the elves from stories, but pale imitations of those elves with high pointed ears and nearly black eyes.     No one understands what exactly happened.  Scholars searched the records and ended up relying on fairytales and stories from the past to figure it out.  Apparently magic went dormant.  Those young enough were transformed to human and those older creatures died.  The magic/human babies were taken in and lived among the people; grew up and never knew what they really were.     Fast forward a few hundreds of years and the blood has been diluted enough that when the magic awoke again only those with 25% or more of the magic DNA transformed.  The ones who lost their minds had so many creatures DNA in them that they transformed to one of the more dominate creatures, but their minds never caught up.  Now we all live in fear that we will transform at any minute.  Almost everyone has some magic DNA in them.  We do blood tests before we have kids to make sure they will have less than the 25% needed to transform.  Those living on the magic side have grouped together as packs or clans depending on their species.  The world is now at a very fragile peace. As with many countries, even though Border City is mixed with humans and magic people, the magic people do not have any rights. Everyone is now afraid.  They are afraid their child will become one of the magic creatures.  They are afraid of the magic beings raising up and killing us.  They are afraid that another burst of magic will turn everyone into one of the magic.  The magic is what we fear the most now.
