CHAPTER 2

1620 Words
Cyrus, Loki, Elena, Zeeb, Gonzalo, Lowell, Louve and Cathy were the eight members of the pack that had formed their own group called The Shadow’s right-hand men. It was a classic name Cyrus had thought about, as they were the youngest members of the pack, he had gathered them together and there was no objection to forming this small clique. They had their own meetings but the topics they discussed were not as serious as those talked about in the general gatherings. As a matter of fact, their discussions were hardly about anything of important urgency. “I didn’t mind really, she was hot, had a good figure. Damn that ass and she knew how to give it to me real good. If she came again asking for more, my word, I’d still smash.” Gonzalo was saying. He was the first person Cyrus had told his plans for forming the clique. He was straightforward, a handsome man with short black hair and he was never tired of women. “You’ll smash anything.” Elena replied and received a stern look from Gonzalo. “Elena is a hater,” Loki said, trying to get in on the conversation. “Tell me, Gonzalo, how beautiful was she?” He had Gonzalo in his stride again, “Ah! What a woman!” he exclaimed “An amazing shade of red hair and she had a figure built to kill.” Suddenly, all eyes fell on Elena, she also had beautiful red hair and she had remarked earlier that Gonzalo would smash anything. “Jokes on you, Elena,” Cyrus said. “I’ll scratch out your eyes.” Came the fierce reply. “Aren’t you a cute little kitty?” Cyrus teased, to the amusement of others, and a round of laughter exploded around the table. Cyrus had the habit of teasing Elena at the slightest chance. He did it so frequently that the others started to suspect that he had a thing for her. “Stop interrupting my story!” Gonzalo said after the laughter had died down, “Now, she has beautiful pearl-green eyes-” “You mean like Louve here” Loki chirped and turned to look at the woman in question. Louvre was a blonde with attractive green eyes. “Look away, Loki.” “Alright.” “You aren’t exactly wrong, her eyes were like the Louvre's and she had freckles all over her face, I found that real cute.” This time, all eyes fell on Cathy, who stared back, failing to hold her laughter. “Why is it that your doll has all the qualities of the ladies in this pack, put together?” Lowell, one of the male werewolves asked. He was the youngest of them all, twenty-two years of age, his hair was tinted blonde and he had an aggressive chin that didn’t fit his docile expression. “You asking me? It’s an insight, maybe I’ll just hook up with one or all of the ladies at this table.” Gonzalo replied and smiled in an incentive manner. “Not in your life.” The women said with disgust in unison. Zeeb had been quiet all this while. That was peculiarly abnormal, for he was always the live wire of the party, alongside Gonzalo. Cyrus had kept an eye on him all night and decided to finally ask, “Yo, Zeeb. What goes on with you man? You’ve been silent as hell all night.” As though just realizing it, the others turned to stare at Zeeb. His blue bead-like eyes had widened and there was an anxious atmosphere around his clean-shaven face. “I almost got busted.” He whispered, but loud enough for everyone around the table to hear. There was a sudden hush and everyone leaned in, “What happened?” Cyrus asked. Zeeb drew in a deep breath and narrated the story of how his lover had almost caught him while he was transforming. He had been cuddling with her in the sitting room and, suddenly, a bell rang in his head and made him dizzy. The next moment, his claws had popped out right in front of her. He had panicked and the only thing he could do before she noticed it was knock her out. “Woah, that’s pretty badass.” Gonzalo said. “Shut up, Gonzalo,” Elena said. “Are you saying there was no warning from your wolf?” Zeeb shook his head. “Phew!” Cyrus exclaimed. “That was a close one. You should always watch out for a lunar eclipse. Sometimes it triggers our transformations, sometimes it doesn’t.” After a while of silent drinking, Lowell directed a question at Loki. “I got one very important question I’ve always been meaning to ask, Loki.” “Yeah?” Loki replied and dropped his empty glass on the table. “Why did you name your wolf after yourself?” A cheeky smile crossed Loki’s lips, “Cause I love my name. And Loki loves it too.” “You’re too strange for my liking.” There was a roar of laughter from the others, but Loki only smiled and ordered a refill. After a while, the others became engrossed in a conversation Loki didn’t like to delve into. He always felt left out as he had little knowledge of it and had never experienced it either. “How fast is your wolf?” Cathy spread the question around the table. “I know how crazy mine can be when I transform, my abilities are a joy to watch. I could move really quickly, but not as fast as Cyprus.” “I’m an Alpha, I can beat you all.” Cyprus said imperiously. They all scoffed and Gonzalo mimicked him. When the question got to Loki, he excused himself with the excuse of being in desperate need for fresh air. It wasn’t entirely a lie, the room was getting stuffy for him, he knew he couldn’t engage in that conversation and the disappointment spread a hand around his throat and choked him whenever the topic stirred up. “I’ll be outside for a while.” “Is anything the matter?” Cyprus asked, worried that something might have triggered Loki's wolf. “No, not at all. I just need fresh air. The heavy smell of the liquor is getting to me.” “Now how the hell are you gonna hear the rest of my erotic stories from outside?” Gonzalo asked. “You dog, I'd rather watch p**n, and you know I hate porn.” Loki remarked as he walked out of the restaurant. Loki wasn’t satisfied, he wanted more, more than he already had. Over the past years in the pack, he had only learnt the basic fighting skills because he failed to trigger his wolf at any point in danger. But he hadn’t discovered his supernatural abilities yet, and it frustrated him a whole lot. After all, he was a supernatural being. He had seen the other seven members of The Shadow’s right-hand men race racing each other and they had moved with incredible speed. They also possessed incredible strength, especially Cyrus. He could lift a Jeep with one hand. But Loki possessed none of that, all he had done to hasten the development of his abilities had proved futile. A few times he had consulted his wolf, Loki, but his reply was always the same. “Patience, Loki. Patience. Once it comes, you won’t need to force it.” Loki remembered those words as he walked slowly on the street, but they didn’t comfort him. Instead, he found himself saying aloud, “Well, I’m tired of waiting!” That attracted a few awkward glances from the other pedestrians and he had to drop his head as he walked further. His frustration was understandable, but little did he know that all he had been wishing for was about to come to him and in a most obscene manner. The moon reflected a brilliant glow over the city, and there were countless stars scattered all over the sky. It was a beautiful sight and a perfect air for two people, but Loki was alone. The issue of a mate never came to him, but he knew all the rules about getting one. As the soon to be Alpha, Cyrus was being pressured by the rest of the pack to find a mate which he could establish in the pack and call his Luna, but Cyrus was adamant, he wanted nature to take its course rather than him going in search of a mate. Being the Alpha’s son probably wasn’t all that fun, Loki thought, as he kept on strolling. He was getting bored of it and decided to head back to the restaurant when his eyes caught a scene as he turned. Something very strange happened. Loki's eyes became blurry at the edges but the vision at the center of his eyes was as sharp as a telescope. 100 meters away, he saw an inrushing vehicle, driving in at full speed and, in the middle of the road, a lady was walking and swaying from side to side. Mentally, he calculated the distance between him and the woman. It was some 50 meters and there was no way he could get there in time to get her out of the way. He looked back at the vehicle and it was suddenly twice as close. In less than 10 seconds, it was going to unavoidably crash into the lady. Loki stood for a second, contemplating what to do, then he heard his wolf say, “Go!” And he dashed forward.
