Don't Open Your Eyes

Chapter 03

Meiah's POV

"Thank you." I shyly said. Our teacher was called by the principal and she just left us a seatwork to keep us busy. My classmates are now starting to get pretty noisy.

"For what?" He coldly asked.

"For helping me earlier." I answered in a small voice. I heard him chuckled and I looked at him confused. What's funny?

"I didn't raised my hand to save you. I raised my hand because I know the answer." He frankly said. I felt my cheeks heated in embarrassment. Why do I keep on embarrassing myself? I've lost my mind. I kept talking to him like we're friends. What are you doing with your life Meiah?!

"Let's eat, Dude." A familiar voice said. I looked at my right and I saw Kris. "Oh! You're still here Meiah. Do you want to join us?" He asked with a huge smile on his face.

I immediately shake my head no. "I-It's fine. I can eat by myself alone." I refused.

"Pretty please." He insisted and grabbed my arm. I wanted to struggle but he's twice my size. I'm just looking down as we headed to the cafeteria. I feel so small with them. They were all looking at me with disgust.

"I'll buy our food. Take care of my seat." He said. Now it's just Calyx and I on this table. I can feel their stares and I'm honestly embarrassed for them.

They must be wondering why an ugly nerd like me is with the two of the popular guys in school. I looked down when I heard them gossiping about me.

"If I were her, I would be so ashamed of myself."

"She looks like Caly's maid."

Those are just one of the things I've heard. They have a lot to say about me. They were calling me names. I made sure to cover my eyes with my hair. I know that I'm about to cry in the next three seconds. I don't want him to pity me.

I don't want to look stupid and be pitied by the guy I like. "Meiah!" A voice called. I lifted my head and saw Sarah and my other two friends waving at me.

"Can we join?" Janina asked. I looked at Calyx and he was just listening to music while reading a book. I don't think he'll find them irritating. They're famous like him after all.

"S-Sure." I responded. Janina chose to sit beside Calyx and Sarah and Stella sat beside me. "Hello Calyx!" Janina freeted but Calyx pretended not to hear her.

He's such a snob king. I remember what they talked about me yesterday. Even if it hurts to know that they were just faking their friendship with mine, I couldn't get mad at them. They're my only friends.

I don't want to go back to where I was before. People were treating me like air. It was only them who at least tried to talked to me. I wasn't surprised to know that they were just using me. Unlike me, they're beautiful and popular. It's impossible for me to enter their world. I'm out of their league.

I smiled when Kris came. "Our table bacame full." He smiled. He greeted them and gave Calyx his food. They talked about things and I was just awkwardly sitting on my chair while listening to them.

I waited for them to start eating before I eat my food very quickly. I couldn't breathe in this place. I can't also stand the other students gossiping about me. I have to finish my food so I could leave.

"Hey! Take it slow Meiah." Kris worriedly said. They all looked at me and I drank a glass of water embarrassed.

"Oh I'm sorry. She can really be a pig sometimes." Stella said. I looked at her surprised. Me? A pig?

"O-Oh! Isn't that too much." Kris said awkwardly and glanced at me. I could cry in embarrassment. I bowed my head and answered. "I-It's okay. It's true." I lied.

"See? She's a pig hahaha." They laughed in chorus. I bit my lip to prevent myself from crying. I feel so ashamed right now.

"Anyway, have you finished our output in Math?" Janina asked. I wiped my cheeks and answered.

"O-Oh! Yes. I'm starting to do it." I wasn't able to stop myself from sobbing. "I'm sorry. I think I have a hiccup." I lied. I know that Kris and Calyx will not buy what I said but I'm begging them to just pretend that they believe me.

"Meiah, can you get me water?." Sarah asked. I nodded. Now I have an excuse to leave for a while. I took the glass and almost dropped it when Calyx struck the table with his bare hand.

It created a really loud sound that we caught the attention of everyone in the cafeteria. "Don't you have legs?" Calyx coldly said. I looked at Sarah and she looked shocked too.

"I was just asking for her to get me water. It's fine, right Meiah?" Sarah looked at me with a warning stare.

"Y-Yeah. I'm also thirsty." I lied. Calyx glared at me and I almost forgot to breathe. He glanced at my water bottle. It's still full.

He knows I'm lying.

"Tss." He hissed and ignored me.

When I finished eating I immediately leave. I lied about meeting a teacher when in fact I went straight to the clinic. I don't think I could face Calyx anymore. I feel faceless.

I don't have the guts to face him right now. He must be making fun of me inside his head like the other students. I went to the clinic and pretended to be sick. They will give an excuse letter if I proved them that I'm sick. As expected, I really should try showbusiness soon because they believed my acting skills.

"Stay in the library for a while. We'll do maintenance in the clinic." said the nurse. I nodded and walked silently to the library. This place is air-conditioned, but because students find this place boring, no one dares to step a foot on this place.

I find a good spot to sleep. A spot where I am hidden and cannot be found. I hope no one notices me here. I closed my eyes and drifted to sleep.

"Miss." A voice called. I opened my eyes and saw the caretaker of our school. Why is he here?

"Why are you still here?." He asked. What does he mean? I looked at my wrist watch and my eyes grew bigger when I saw what time is it. It's 7:00 PM. Nanny must be so worried right now.

I didn't even realize how long I have been sleeping in here. It felt so quick. I'm doomed.

"I'm sorry!" I apologized and took my bag. The lights in the hallway are already off. The rooms are closed. It's really dark. Nobody's here anymore. What was I thinking? If the caretaker didn't see me I would have woke up the next morning.

I waited for a bus to stopped by but no one came. No buses come here at this time because it's already late. I have to walked a little longer to see the waiting shed for bus stop.

I released a deep sigh. "Hah..." I started walking. It's quite far but it's okay. I'm more worried of crossing the club near our school.

I might see a drunk lunatic here. I bit my lip when I heard someone called me. "Psstt!" A voice called. I've missed the club already but I know the vocie came from there.

"Hey!" He yelled but I did not looked back. I started walking faster that you can almost tell that I'm already running. "I'm calling you!" He roared and grabbed my shoulder. I removed his hand and ran faster.

"Help!!" I screamed in fear. I can hear footsteps after me. There must be two of them. "Stop running!" The man yelled. He grabbed my arm and brought me to a dark place.

"Let go of me!" I yelled and struggled. He pushed me on the ground and I groaned when I hit a rock. I was so scared that I didn't realize that my foot is bleeding already. I'm so scared for my life.

"You're so young and fresh." He said like a maniac. I searched for the other guy but I couldn't see him. I'm sure that there's two of them base from the footsteps I heard. I looked at his back and was shocked to see the guy behind him.

"Calyx?" I mumbled. He's holding a piece of wood. My eyes grew bigger when he struck the guy on the head.

"Argh!" He groaned. Calyx approached me and helped me to stand up. The guy stood up again like nothing happened. His head was bleeding.

I held Calyx's arm in fear. He hide me behind his back. I was so afraid of what could happen next that I chose to close my eyes. I heard him whispered in my ear.

"Don't open your eyes."
