Don't Open Your Eyes

Chapter 01

Meiah's POV

"Meiah eat your breakfast first!" Nanny yelled from the house.

"I'm full Nanny. I'm running late!" I yelled back because I'm already outdoors. I don't know how to prevent these things I'm carrying from falling right now. It's frustrating.

I hailed a jeepney. If you're wondering what a jeepney is, it's a bus and it's the most popular means of public transportation ubiquitous in the Philippines.

I immediately entered the jeep that stopped in front of me. "Please take me to Seaside Highschool." I politely said. Since I'm quite far from the driver I asked for someone to lend my fee to him but no one answered. No one even dared to looked at me. They just ignored me like I'm invisible. I felt embarrassed.

I was going to give my fee to the driver myself when someone took the money in my hand. "Two passengers to Seaside, please." He said. I felt my cheeks heated and I know for sure that it's starting to turn red now. He's Calyx's friend.

I looked away when he looked at me  "Hello! Meiah right?" He greeted. He knows my name?

"O-Oh! Hello Kris." I shyly greeted back. The other passengers are now looking at us. They must be wondering why a handsome man like him is talking to a nobody like me.

"You know me?!" He exclaimed.

"You're popular, you know." I answered. It's more unbelievable that he actually knows my name. He smiled and I smiled back.

"Calyx is the popular one. Not me." He chuckled. I can't believe that he's actually talking to me right now.

We had a really long conversation and I was just silent and listening to him. I smile and laugh when he gives me really funny jokes. He's literally the complete opposite of his aloof and snob friend.

When we finally arrived at school. He told me that he had to meet someone first so I entered the room alone. We still have ten minutes before class starts.

"These are your projects." I smiled and give them the things I've been holding since earlier. Those are the projects appointed to them by our teacher, but I'm the one who made it.

"Thank you friend!" Sarah happily said. They are my friends.

"We'll pay you back, promise." Stella said and rose her right hand.

"Can you also make our Math output?" Janina asked. I gave her a small smile and nodded. Ever since they become my friends, I started making their projects and homeworks.

It's not a big deal because it's easy. I know that they're having a really hard time making these schoolworks and since I'm their friend, I should help them. They're my only friends so I should cherish them.

Minutes after. Our first subject teacher came. I gulped and sat beside Calyx. You're right. We're seatmates.

Flashback

"Class you have a new classmate." Teacher announced. My classmates started murmuring and talking at each other like bees. I'm just quietly writing important notes on my notebook.

It has been a month since school started. Why did this new classmate transferred so late?

I lifted my head as soon as he entered the room. The murmuring of my classmate grew louder. I felt my mouth slightly opened at the view. He's so handsome.

"Good morning. I'm Calyx Eithan Payne." He plainly introduced himself. Even his voice sounds really handsome.

"Choose your seat Mister Payne." Teacher said. He scanned the room and he locked his eyes on the vacant seat on my right side. Nobody wants to sit beside me that's why it's vacant. My left side is the window. I'm a window person.

He started walking to my place and I bowed my head to hide my face. "Move." He commanded. I looked at him confused. What does he mean?

"H-Huh?" I asked. Does he want me to move? Does he want to sit beside the window too? I stood up and moved to the vacant chair on my right.

"I said move your bag." He repeated in a cold voice. I looked at my bag and it's resting on the vacant chair. I mentally facepalm myself. I'm such a moron. Since it's a vacant chair, I'm used of putting my bag here. I took it with me and went back to my seat embarrassed.

"S-Sorry." I apologized. He ignored me and listen in front.

End of Flashback

He didn't even glance at me. Kris entered the room and he did not hesitate to wave his hand at me. I shyly waved back.

I glanced at Calyx when I saw him noticed his friend waved at me. I slowly bowed my head and bring down my hand.

After school

Me and my friends usually go outside to eat at this time. I always treat them using the allowance that Nanny gives me.

"Where are we going to eat?" I asked and smiled. It's a special day so we should be celebrating. They looked at each other and I stared at them puzzled.

"We decided to eat outside without you today." Janina said. The smile on my lips slowly faded. Without me?

"We want to enjoy ourselves. Don't join us for now." Stella added.

"You can join us next time." Sarah said and forced a smile. I was speechless for ten seconds. When I came back to my senses I spoke.

"O-Oh! I almost forgot. I actually have to do something. I forgot that I have plans today. Maybe a next time will do indeed. Enjoy!" I fake a smile and said goodbye to them. I turned around and ran away.

What I said was a lie. I didn't know how to react that's why I lied. It seemed like they don't want to be with me. I hid as soon as I turned left to the hallway. I peaked at them and they are still there.

"I really can't stand being with her." Stella said. She does look disgusted.

"Bear with it. No one will do our schoolworks." Janina said.

"Aren't we too harsh earlier?" Sarah asked. She looked guilty.

You're right Sarah. You guys were harsh. I felt a hot liquid crossed my cheeks. I'm crying. I immediately wiped it using the back of my hand.

"Forget it. She can't do anything about it. We're the only ones' that she can call friends." She smirked. I bowed my head. I feel so down right now. I exited the school feeling blue.

I grabbed the keychains that I made. I was going to give these to them as a gift. Today is our friendship's 5th monthsarry gone wrong. I even called this day special. I'm such an i***t. I threw the keychains at the nearest trashcan. I hailed a jeep.

I dropped at the near bookstore. I finished reading the book I bought last time so I'm here to buy a new one. I love reading romantic novels. One of my favorites are 'For You'. The rich male lead fell in love with an average woman. Second is 'Look into my eyes', this is where the characters confessed their feelings while riding a Ferris wheel. Last is 'Losing Mind, where the characters ate ice cream while watching the sunset.

Love is really something. I scanned the perfectly alined book on the shelves. I stopped walking when I sensed a guy blocking the way. I lifted my head and my eyes grew bigger when I saw his face.

"You're looking for something to read?" He asked while looking straight to the book he's holding.

"Y-Yeah." I stutteringly answered. I made myself busy by looking at the books. I don't want him to notice how nervous I am right now.

"Try this." He put the book he was reading on my face. "It's a good one." He smiled and left.

I stared at the book.

"Don't open your eyes." I whispered. That's the title of the book.
