Chapter 10: The Battle In-between; Audra POV

We stop suddenly before we get to the WhiteWood Pack. I open my eyes and sense something is off. I look at Saint "Hey babe what’s going on?" He is looking out the front window "I think we have company and it is not the good kind." I look and I see a line of vampires in front of us and they do not look happy. My dad gets out first and slowly approaches them. We can smell the stench from the car. Jewel is uneasy we take off our seat belts and get ready to launch to save dad if needed. Saint does the same thing we look back at the other car behind us. "I have linked the others they are ready to attack if needed" Saint says. I look at him and nod as I open my door. My dad starts to talk to the vampire that is seeming like the leader. "Hello, is there a reason you are standing in the middle of the road preventing us from moving forward?" The vampire smirks "Of course there is wolf, I want repayment for the one who killed my brother, and my sources say it was one of you." My dad changes his stance I can tell he is readying for a fight "Who was your brother?" my dad says. "It was the vampire named Leo he was up in the mountain looking for something for me and he ran into one of your kind. Now kindly tell me who it was so I can kill them and get on with what I am doing." before my dad can say anything I jump out of the car and head straight for the ugly, smelly vampire. "It was me that killed your brother. Him and his friends tried to attack me so I killed them." I look behind me and everyone is out of the cars now lined up behind me ready for a fight. I turn back around and if looks could kill I would be dead already "that is one unhappy vampire" Jewel says. I smirk at him he looks like his head is about to explode "I am going to kill you little wolf." I smile at him "you know that is the same thing your brother said right before he lost his head." I look at my dad who does not look happy. He looks at the vampire "Look I know you are mad but lets not start a war here is there another way around this?" the vampire gives a evil laugh "no you dumb wolf she killed my brother so I will kill her." He lunges for me, before he can make it Jewel takes over and I step back she immediately shifts. She lunges for the vampire and we start to fight. He tries to wrap his arms around me to crush me as Jewel tries to go for his neck to rip off his head. The other vampires get mad and start to fight with the wolfs. Before we know it it's an all-out blood bath. I let Jewel handle the fight as I tune into our powers and ask the earth around us for help. The earth responds willingly ready to help. I feel the trees and the ground move. I tell Jewel to open our mind and let me tell the rest to stand down that I have it from here. "Everyone stop fighting I have got it from here there will be no more bloodshed." As soon as they stop fighting the earth moves and it grabs all the vampires and takes them into the forest you can hear their screams slowly disappear. The only one still here is Leo's brother who Jewel is now in the process of ripping off his head. Again the blood taste nasty but this time it tasted like it was tainted with something else. "It's dark magic,” said Jewel. The vampire was still struggling in her grips "you will not win this war little wolf. There are bigger things at play here." that was the last thing the vampire said before Jewel finished ripping off his head. My dad and Saint came over to me I opened up the link to talk to them "I am going to stay in wolf form and let Jewel run the rest of the way. The vampire had dark magic in its blood, and I want to see what I can pick up in the woods." They both looked at each other then Saint talked to me "I don't think that is a good idea love. What if there is something else in the wood's that is worse than that vampire." I looked at him "I think I can handle myself babe the earth will help me. I will run in the tree line where you can still see me but that way I can pick up on any scents that we might miss otherwise." I look to my dad "daddy any problems with my plan?" He looks exasperated "no Audra I guess not but when we get to the pack house we are going to have a conversation about the little stunt that you pulled with that vampire. You need to not be so reckless if you are going to be a leader you need to have better control." I looked down and Jewel came forward "I am sorry sir that was me that made Audra do that I will try to do better but I could not help myself when I saw the way the vampire was looking. I will do better as well." My dad petted my head as I rubbed against his leg "It's ok let's just be careful next time and we are still having a further discussion when we get to the pack house." I looked at him "yes sir" I started to walk away "I love you both. I will see you at the pack house. Saint will you let them know I am not coming in the car I will be coming in the back way through the forest." he nods "already done love, be careful" Jewel and I nod back then take off into the forest. We run along the tree line where we can still keep sight of the cars but still sniff what is around. We smell the vampire stench like they had been waiting there for a while for us to show. There is a mix of something else too "it’s the stench of dark magic. We need to call and tell Rose when we get to the pack house and see what she has to say" Jewel said. As we get closer to the pack house the smell starts to dissipate, I run further into the forest and away from the main road so I can go onto the territory through the back. The smell comes back suddenly, Jewel and I stop to look around. We go further back and there is a camp site it looks like where they were staying it is close enough to the pack lands where they can watch but far enough away not to be noticed by a regular wolf. I link Saint to let him know what I found so he can tell our fathers. I search around for any clues as to what they were looking for up in the mountains, but I did not really find anything. I run back to the border and meet up with the patrol from the WhiteWood pack they let me through and lead me to the pack house so I can meet up with the others. I link Saint to bring me clothes so I can shift back and change before our meeting. He meets at the back of the pack house with my clothes and I shift back and change. I can tell Jewel is tired "Jewel rest I can handle everything else from here out." I feel her relief "thanks girl I appreciate it." she is out like a light I am tired as well but I know that I have to brief the rest of the group on my findings and make sure they are aware the patrol needs to be on high alert. I meet Saint back inside and we go into the pack conference room. I take a seat in-between Saint and my father. As I sit next to Saint I can feel Cody through the mate bond checking that Jewel is ok she responds back and she goes back to resting. I can tell that this pleases Cody and Saint as he seems to relax more and loose some of the tension he has been carrying. Morgan looks at me and I can tell she is silently asking if I am ok. I nod in response and listen to my dad "ok so we need to go over what happened today and what Audra found on her run. Audra, I will let you take it away." I nod to my dad "so when Jewel and I were fighting the vampire we tasted his blood it tasted like the last time but there was something off about it. Jewel said it was dark magic and that is what made his blood taste different than his brothers." Saint's dad looks at me and ask's "were you able to tell from the taste who gave him the power for the magic?" I shake my head "no sir, all that we could tell was that it was not a natural form of magic. When I was following in the tree line the smell started to dissipate as I was getting closer to pack grounds. When I turned to go through the back of the pack grounds the smell picked back up again. I found a camp site it seemed like they had been there awhile watching the pack. It was far enough away not to be noticed by a regular wolf, but close enough to see and hear what was going on." Saints dad looks at him "we need to hold a meeting with the patrol group and go over what Audra has told us." Saint nods in agreement and looks at me "can you show us where the camp site was so the patrol can pick up on the scents as well?" I nod in response "of course whatever we need to do to make sure this pack is safe we will do. I suggest all of you other Alpha's phone in with your beta's and do a patrol just outside of your borders to make sure there is nothing there." They all nod and send off messages to their respecting packs. My dad asks "did you search the camp site and did you find anything?" I shake my head "I searched the camp site but I did not find anything that would have told us why they were up in the mountain or why they were watching the pack so closely. They left no trace but a few scraps of trash and their nasty scent." He nods in understanding "Dad I think I need to call in Rose to have a look at the camp site and do some training with her to see what we can find out on this vampire and what they are after." He looks at me "I agree I will put the call in to have her flown out here as soon as she is able to so you two can get to work and find out what is going on." I can tell everyone is on edge "I also wanted to say thank you to everyone out there today for having my back. I know what I did was reckless, and I should not have started that fight with the vampire, but I felt like I had no choice. Next time I will be more careful about putting you all in danger and be more aware of what is going on around me." All of the guys look at me but it was Mason who spoke up "you did what you had to do Audra he was looking for a fight anyway and was not going to leave us alone until he got one. I just hope there is not another brother out there, but with our luck there probably is." I laugh "thanks Mason I apricate that and thank you for understanding." My dad stands up "and on that note I think you all could use a little rest you have all had a lot of excitement today and I need to have a conversation with Audra alone." They all look at me with sympathy I just smile as the walk out. Saint is the last one to leave "I will see you in the room in a little bit please let me know if you need anything." I nod and give him a kiss as he walks out the door. My dad closes the door and looks at me "Audra you know I love you but what you did today could have cost us deeply. You nearly gave Saint and me a heart attack. When that vampire lunged at you I thought that was it you were going to die." I get up and walk over to him "I am sorry daddy I did not mean to do that to you or to Saint. I just let Jewel take over and she took it from there. But to be fare you should have know that I was not going to let some nasty vampire get one on me." He laughs "I know love but still I need for you and Jewel to be a little bit more careful you are all that I have left in this world." I give him a hug "I love you dad and I will tone it down and think before acting and speaking. I cannot say the same for Jewel but I will work with her on it." He hugs me back "that is all that I ask for my love. Now go get some sleep we have to be up bright and early tomorrow." I walk out and head to Saints room. He is already in bed when I walk in so I go straight to the bathroom to shower and change. Once I am done I crawl into bed and I feel Saint come up behind me and wrap his arms around me "good night babe I am glad you are safe." I give into his arms and release my tension "good night love I am glad you are safe as well." With that we both go to sleep I pray to the moon goddess that there is no surprises tomorrow.
