The Awakening
Adelia grew up surrounded by love, nestled in the warmth of family and friends. Every day was a gentle melody of laughter and light, a time when sadness seemed like a distant concept meant for other lives, not her own. But everything changed when she turned ten. The Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack, Silas, declared that her parents, two humble Omegas, were traitors. Despite their desperate pleas, begging for just eight more years to stay until Adelia was grown, Silas remained unmoved. He exiled them to the far reaches of the northern border, casting them away from the only life they’d known. Her father, Simon, had been a powerful warrior, his strength nearly rivaling an Alpha. Her mother, Nadia, had been the pack’s eternal optimist, her smiles always brightening the darkest days. And just like that, they were gone. Seven long years passed. Adelia would be an adult in just a week, but she faced this milestone alone, without her family beside her. When she was twelve, they had nearly run out of food, scavenging just enough to survive. Her parents sacrificed their meager rations to keep her alive, until, at last, starvation drove them to make the hardest decision of all. They left, telling her only, "Find someone who will love and cherish you for their whole life." That day, Adelia wept until the world seemed empty, burying her parents and walking away from her home for the second time. At seventeen, Adelia had become strong, determined, and unbreakable. Each day, she woke at dawn to practice, running and hunting to keep herself alive, all to fulfill her parents' final wish. She still remembered her father’s wolf, Sean, with his deep brown fur speckled in gold, and wondered what her own wolf would look like. Days inched by until, at last, her eighteenth birthday arrived. Alone, Adelia whispered a quiet “happy birthday” to herself, eager to meet her wolf for the first time. Time crawled; each second felt like an eternity until, finally, she heard a gentle voice in her mind. “Hey, there. I’m happy to meet you,” the voice greeted her. “Who are you? Why are you talking in my head?” she growled, uncertain. “Don’t be silly, I’m your wolf. I am you, and you are me.” The realization made her heart race. “My wolf! Really? Yes! Finally! Uhm, what’s your name? I’m Adelia.” “I already know your name. I’m Arianell, but you can call me Aria.” Excitement overcame her. “Okay! So, how can I shift into you?” Aria’s reply was calm, yet cautionary. “Are you sure? Shifting for the first time will hurt a lot.” “Yes, I’m ready. I’ve been training for this day.” After steadying her mind, Adelia closed her eyes, allowing Aria to take control. Pain surged through her as she shifted, feeling her body change, her skin replaced by sleek silver fur, her form taller and stronger than ever before. After ten intense minutes, she finally gazed upon Aria in full—a stunning wolf with shimmering silver fur and piercing blue eyes, just like Adelia’s own. Aria urged her to run, and together they dashed through the snow-laden woods, the wind whipping across her face, the world passing by in a silver blur. The waist-deep snow that had hindered her human form barely reached Aria’s knees. For an hour, she ran with exhilaration, feeling alive in a way she hadn’t for years. Exhausted, she finally transformed back, grabbed her clothes, and curled up against a tree, comforted by the presence of Aria. She drifted off to sleep, grateful to no longer be alone. When she opened her eyes, she found herself staring into a pair of scarlet eyes watching her from the shadows.
