A Siren's Call

Chapter 2

JADE POV

I looked around the fancy restaurant in awe. The interior was very beautiful and it was made to resemble the ocean floor.

"Adam this is breathtaking… how did you even have time to arrange for this?" I asked curiously trying to keep my excitement at bay.

Looking pleased with himself he sat up.

"Well I managed to pull a few and then boom here we are dear."

" Hey I want the actual truth Adam, how did you do this?" I asked curiously while taking a sip of my wine.

"Okay since you're insisting so much I'll tell you honey. Okay I have some connections here, we'll have an old friend and her name is Ronnie."

" Oh it's a woman."

" Come on don't give me that look, she's just a friend but after the third grade her family had to move away."

" But years later I'm meeting my best friend on my anniversary and guess what she's the owner of this restaurant and hotel she's giving us a couple's discount."

" Oh that's great luck to us."

Adam c****d at me as I sipped my wine.

He placed his hand on top of mine.

" Jade is something bothering you?"

"No of course not why do you ask?"

" You're drinking way too much and you're barely listening to a word I'm telling you."

" Adam, I need a refill, could you please call the waiter?"

He frowned at me.

" Fine, have it your way."

"Waiter, could you please bring us a bottle of your most expensive wine?"

"Of course sir."

Once the waiter was gone Adam got up as he waved at someone to come over. I turned around and saw that it was a woman dressed in a black suit and working pants that hugged her curvy body sinfully.

She smiled at him, totally ignoring me.

She had black dark hair, almond shaped brown eyes, brown fair skin and a smile that would put any man to his knees.

Two dimples appeared on both of her cheeks.

"Adam, it's so good to see you!" She beamed excitedly as they exchanged hugs.

I gaped at both of them in shock.

Adam pulled back gently.

"It's nice to see you too Ronnie and this is my wife Jade."

I forced a smile as I got up and offered her my hand showing off my diamond ring because Adam and j were also here to renew our wedding vows.

She gave me a polite smile.

"Wow it's so nice to meet you Jade you're even more beautiful in person and Adam has told me so much about you."

" Really?"

" Of course we've talked to each other over the past few years. After all, he is my best friend."

This only means that Adam had lied to me so he has been talking to Ronnie behind my back.

"Please join us, Ronnie. I have a feeling that we'll become very good friends."

Adam looked surprised but I wanted to figure out his game plan.

"Thank you for the offer Jade but this is your anniversary and I don't want to be the third wheel on your date."

" But I insist Ronnie please join us. I'm sure Adam wants to check up with you as well right dear?"

" Let's not force Ronnie honey after all she's a busy business woman."

" No it's nothing like that besides I'm not that busy today so I guess I'll stick around."

We all sat down as we made our orders.

" So Ronnie told me about life in Fiji. I'm sure it must be like an adventure everyday."

She smiled at me.

" Oh it's nothing like that but I enjoy my work here though it can be time consuming but I simply enjoy my life here. It's like my own tiny bubble holding a piece of paradise."

" That sounds lovely."

" Do you have any kids?"

Ronnie sipped her cocktail before answering me.

" No, not yet, I'm not even married."

"Oh I see what activities you do outside the office?"

Ronnie chewed her vegetable salad.

" I enjoy working out."

I smiled at her.

"Ah that explains why I'm jealous of that sexy figure of yours."

" Thank you Jade but all women are made beautiful and we shouldn't see a need to compare ourselves with others."

" I remember when we were younger I used to get bullied because I was the fat kid in glasses and braces."

" Adam would always be the one to stand up for me. In short he became an inspiration and I decided to start living healthy and turn my life around."

I nodded quietly.

" Ummm excuse I need to use the ladies powder room."

Once I was in the bathroom I sighed softly.

" Why are you behaving this way Jade?"

" You're acting like a crazy person busy interrogating Adam's best friend who happens to be a woman."

" This is our anniversary and I need to keep my cool because it's about Adam and I. Moreover Ronnie is just his friend and nothing else."

Once I managed to calm myself I left the bathroom but my eyes widened in shock when I found Ronnie giggling loudly.

She was talking to Adam like they were lovers. The crazy woman even dared to place her hand on top of Adam's hand.

Did he easily forget about me?

Ronnie struck the last nerve when she whispered something in Adam's ear making him a smile.

He pulled out a ring showing it to her.

Ronnie took the ring and wore it.

My jaw dropped.

Was he replacing me?

When Adam saw me his smile suddenly disappeared as he got up.

"Jade..."

"So this is the surprise you were talking about right?"

" You listened to your mother's advice and finally found someone to replace me?"

" Jade this is just a misunderstanding, calm down."

He tried to touch me but I took a step back.

"Jade, this is ridiculous."

"You're causing a scene."

Everyone in the restaurant was watching the little show in amazement; some of them even took out their phones.

Ronnie got up.

"Let me handle this Adam, you're only making her more upset."

" Jade listen this is a big misunderstanding just hear me-"

I cut her off mid sentence when I poured my drink on her, silencing her.

I rushed out and went into the halls. I was aware of his presence behind me. The moment came when he grabbed my hand tightly and pinned me against the wall.

"Let me go Adam."

"Not until you listen to me."

" Jade, you're blowing things out of proportion. I'm not going to marry Ronnie."

Angry tears rolled down my cheeks.

" The ring is for you Ronnie was just checking it because you're almost the same ring size. I just wanted to make sure that everything was perfect."

" And she was only sitting close to me because she was telling me something I didn't want you to find out."

" I've been keeping in touch with Ronnie over the past few years because I wanted to surprise by buying our new home here because I know that at our old apartment my mother always gives you a hard time whenever she comes over."

" Ronnie was just helping me out with the house and contacting the owner who was more than willing to sell to us."

" I would never cheat on you Jade."

" I'm sorry Adam."

" Seeing the two of you so close made me think that your mother was right, maybe you deserve better."

" Not if it means I'll only end up losing you in the end Jade."

" She'll give you an heir and the grandchild your mother has always wanted."

Adam cupped both of my cheeks.

" Listen to me Jade when the right time comes we can always adopt a baby ok."

" It's all over now."

I nodded quietly and hugged him tightly.

Suddenly there was an explosion.

Everyone in the restaurant began rushing out because half of the restaurant was blown up. Their horrified screams filled my ears. A powerful force knocked me to the ground rendering me unconscious.
