CHAPTER FIVE. The content of the message left me heart broken. "How can I be fired from this job this early?" I asked my self in utter shock. It could be that the job wasn't for me, I comforted myself. The content of the letter also showed that I had been summoned to the office by the board of directors, judges and barristers for a meeting. One thing I learnt while growing up was never giving up no matter how hard it may seem to be. My instinct was telling me something else, that my boss, the chief attorney was the brain behind the message because I felt he loved me. "Stop being naughty Anna." I shouted out to myself. I had probably been day dreaming as a result of watching too much K drama series. I was still buried in my ocean of thought when I heard my door bell rang slightly. Since I wasn't expecting anyone and I was trying to be security conscious, I peeped through the door hole and it was the estate plumber. My thoughts had slowly drifted back to my boss Peter, I imagined if he was the one standing at my door. I smacked my face slightly because I was getting overly naughty again. I opened the door for the plumber and he walked in smiling at him. "Hello". I greeted. "Hi. Good afternoon ma'am, I'm the plumber the estate manager recommended to you to fix your kitchen sink. I smiled at him and took him in. I offered him water and from the way he gulped it down, I could tell that he was very hungry so, I offered him chilled coke and chicken wings which he shyly declined at first but I urged him to take it which he did. "You're a nice person ma'am. Thank you very much." He complimented. I was happy I made someone smile moreover something about him seemed to thrill me. His use of English was absolutely top notch and I decided to ask him about it. "You speak very nicely like you've lived in the States before." He looked at me and smiled slightly and he didn't say any other thing again. Deep inside, I felt like I had offended him. Maybe he might've felt that I was mocking him indirectly. "Sorry for the question if it offended you in any way." I apologized confusingly. I was already on my way out of the kitchen when he made a statement that shocked me. "You didn't offend me ma'am. I'm a first class graduate of law, I couldn't find any job after graduating so, I decided to begin hustling from my own little way." His story was touching and emotional, it absolutely reminded me of how lucky I was in gett a job and I messed the opportunity up. Most deserving youths were unemployed and it was something I wanted to stop once I get the opportunity and special privilege. The young dude was already tearing up but I comforted him the way I could. I also encouraged him not to relent but rather, he should keep working hard. I didn't tell him my profession, I didn't want him to know that I was a lawyer too. In no time, he was done with the repair. He did it excellently and I was happy about it. I felt the need to help so, I asked him for his bank details which he was initially scared of giving me because it was against the nature of his job. I gave him the most I could afford and asked him to start up something for himself. Soon, he was ready to go. I didn't ask him his name earlier so, I decided to. "What's your name please?" "My name is Wilson John. I'm grateful for all you've done for me today and I pray I meet you later in life to appreciate you." I opened the door for him and I watched him leave my apartment. I bade him farewell and closed my door. I was sad, I couldn't tell the reason but it was because of Wilson the plumber guy, it was like I had known him for a long while. I peeped at him through my window and I could clearly see him turn around on intervals to stare back at my apartment. He was obviously tearing up but I was very glad that I had helped someone. I knew that he really appreciated it. The rest of my evening was uneventful. I didn't find joy in doing anything so, I decided to turn on my television and watch the news at least. I turned on my television and heard my name almost Immediately. It was very shocking to me because I couldn't tell the angle of what I had gotten into. It was the biggest news channel in the whole country that I heard my name from. "Oh God, save me." I mumbled a short word of prayer. I was finally relieved after I found out that the news caster was just calling out the names of the newly selected lawyers which I happened to be the first but what confused me was why my name was still there even after I had a fallout with my boss. Slowly, nature took over and I drifted off to sleep. In my dream, I saw myself getting married to my boss and he fed me cake and chocolate to eat. I woke up and discovered that it was all a dream and I had overslept. I had barely and hour to meet up with the board and I doubted if I could really make it. I hurriedly took my bath, brushed my teeth, dressed up and my Uber came to pick me up. 9:15am. I got to the office exactly at quarter past nine and I was very scared. The whole building was unusually quiet and I hurriedly enter into the main administrative officer building. The seating governor, twelve senators and even a representative to the president was at our court for a meeting and the lawyer that was meant to deliver a speech disappointed at the dieing minute. We had just less than ten minutes to get a new representative. No staff was willing to move an inch and I decided to be the sacrificial lamb. "I'll do the representation. I just need a preview of what it's going to be." I could hear my colleagues extremely excited. The secretary worked swiftly towards me with a in her hand to probably put me through but time was up. I matched into the conference hall fearlessly, expecting the first to happen. I was confident in my ability and I also saw this as a way of making up for the mistake I made earlier. Giving that it was my first time of meeting such amount of prominent men and I was the only woman in their mist, I knew that I had to give my best. Soon, they were all settled and the question section began. It was interactive and very much simple to me. I made sure to answer confidently and boldly. I was still doing my presentation when my eye met with that of my boss, the attorney general. He smiled at me proudly and that was the only thing I needed to warm my heart. Soon, the meeting was over. I immediately walked into my office so as to ask a messenger to get me lunch. Just then, a staff came into my office to deliver a message. My boss wanted to see me urgently.
