EPISODE FOUR. It was like a dream for me. I found it very hard to believe that the missing phone had suddenly appeared inside my office and to make matters worst, all this was actually happening on my first day at work. The whole staff had gathered in smaller groups as I could hear inaudible murmurs among them. Everyone stared at me with the deadly look that could consume someone. Just then, Sir Peter immediately appeared out of the blue and asked me to see him at his office. I couldn't imagine what was awaiting me, so I slowly walked to his office in humiliation. I went into his office and i could barely say any words because I had already concluded that I had a jinx that followed me around. The quiet and serene atmosphere of the office of my boss was tense. To make matters worse, all he did was stare at me without saying any word to me and that made me very uncomfortable, so, I broke the silence. "Sir, you sent for me earlier." I asked in fear. I had decided to put up the conversation to at least break the silence. I still couldn't process the fact that a client's missing phone was found inside my office just barely hours after I resumed for my first day at this office. "Oh Lord have mercy." I cried out in frustration. I must have made the wrong first impression to the staff of my office. All of them would have concluded that I was a thief and it was not a good reputation for anyone to have. "You look very pretty when you're angry." Sir Peter said to me in a flirty manner that left me extremely apoplectic with embarrassment. To make matters worse, he was even laughing at me and that even angered me the most. He was even making me feel like the matter was less sensitive. He held me in greater tension as he refused to even utter any word to explain the reason he called me. Finally, after what seemed like eternity, he said some words to me. "Phew! It's so hard to say this to you, miss Anna." To be honest, I didn't know what to think or expect from my boss. Was he going to fire me or what? I couldn't imagine or think straight, so, I began to beg him. "I'm so sorry sir, I swear to you that I know nothing about the missing phone that was found in my office some minutes earlier." I paused because my tears choked me. "Please, don't fire me sir. I really need this job." The atmosphere was uncomfortable for me, I couldn't speak at all because I had run out of words. The job I had gotten almost on a platter of gold was about to slip off my fingers. Just then, the voice of my boss made me jolt back to reality. "Contrary to your thoughts, Miss Anna, I sincerely called you into my office to apologize to you about the drama that played earlier concerning the missing phone that was found inside your office. It was wrongly placed in your office by the messenger and she immediately came to report herself to me. We're sorry for the inconveniences that this situation must've caused you." At that instant, I breathed a sigh of relief because I was happy that it wasn't really what I had concluded it was. I didn't know if I was going to smile or cry, but what mattered most to me was that I was free. I had extreme anger boiling inside of me, most especially as a result of the previous incident that had left me almost embarrassed in front of everyone. "This is an insult and a caricature. I replied to Sir Peter with extreme anger, although I tried my very best to suppress it because I didn't want to seem rude to my boss. The humiliation and shame as a result of the incident was enough to make one go crazy, but I had to bear it. "This is so unfair sir. I hate being let down by anyone. I hope this doesn't repeat again because I won't hesitate to resign from this job. It's so unbelievable that a very respected man of your caliber would be this insensitive. I'm leaving your office right now." I stood up from my seat and made for the door in anger. I could smell the shock written all over his face. I didn't believe that I could say something like that as a result of anger. I just prayed silently that my anger would not cost me my job. I could hear him call my name in shock, but I didn't care. It was insensitive to treat anyone the way I had been treated earlier. I didn't care about whatever the outcome was going to be. I had started developing a strong hatred for Peter. He was rude and very egocentric too. "Come back here Anna, how dare you work out on me?" He was still speaking when I slammed the door on him and went to my office seat, waiting for the worst to happen. It was common for women to be bullied by everyone. I wasn't furious because the messenger had accidentally dropped the phone at my office. Rather, I was angry because the way Sir Peter presented the matter was humiliating, like I wasn't a human. I was waiting for him to fire me from work since I probably insulted him earlier, although I had no single regret. The rest of the day was tedious for me because I had a lot to cover and, to the best of my knowledge, I gave nothing but my best. It was time to close from work and I couldn't even wait to get home and rest. My boss left early before closing time. The man that the management assigned as my new driver was already waiting for me outside the office. He was to drive me home and then drive me to my residence, but I wasn't in any way at all ready to be driven by anyone, but I had to comply. He was a friendly and jovial man, probably in his early fifties. He spoke intelligently with an American accent. "You're lucky to get this job, Miss. I pray my daughter will be lucky once she starts job hunting. She's a final year law student." He said, smiling happily. I wished his daughter luck too, because I knew how hard it was for one to get a reasonable job immediately after graduation. The thoughts of what happened earlier at work kept flashing back in my memory as I tried to process what I did. I had acted out of anger and after reflecting about it, I realized that I had overreacted. My personal driver had gotten to my estate and he needed directions to my apartment. I jolted back to reality after he called out to me. "Hello Miss, are you okay? I've been asking you questions but it seems like you're carried away in thoughts. Please, which apartment is yours exactly?" I took my time to explain the directions of my apartment to him. In no time, I was already inside my room. The first thing I did was to have a cold bath and after that, I made hot tea for myself which I didn't have the appetite to take. I was still trying to catch some rest when I got a text message from a hidden contact. My mind flew away because I didn't know if my boss had fired me. True to my fears, it was a message from my office. The content of the message left me heartbroken. I had been suspended indefinitely and the board of judges, attorneys and barristers had summoned me for an emergency meeting.
