The Intrusion
Aria's POV
The house was noisier than ever and I almost got dizzy trying to take note of the maids who went around preparing everything.
Today was the day I wished never to come. Mom looked very excited that she couldn't even answer my morning greeting. I was deeply flustered. Things were already getting tight but yet they had money to spend on a home coming party for my sister. The anger grew. I couldn't even eat breakfast. I just packed my bag and left the hell hole I call home.
I entered the school bus. I was heading to the one place where I found my peace. A place where I was never compared or looked down by anyone. My safe zone. The bus stopped in front of the school gate and I quickly rushed in. I was late.
The bell had rung ten minutes ago, but the hallway still echoed with the usual morning chaos, lockers slamming, gossip flying, the faint scent of expensive perfume and cafeteria coffee. I slipped into Advanced Literature class just as Mrs. Catalina started roll call, sliding into my usual seat near the window. Safe. Quiet. Invisible. I then looked at my friends who gave me a comfortable smile and I smiled back at them. Today was going to be a casual day. A lot of lessons, gossips and hanging out....Or so I thought.
The roar came first, a deep, throaty growl that vibrated through the glass. Everyone immediately ran to the window to peek who it was. A sleek black motorcycle tore through the academy gates like it owned them, the engine looked overheated from the hot sun and it's black color glowing under it.The rider didn't slow down until he was practically on the steps, the engine cutting with a final snarl that made half the class flinch. I was already frowning at the sight, it looked like trouble just made its way to the school.
"What a nuisance" I said
I could hear half of the school downstairs making a chattering noise and people cheering. Mrs Catalina screamed at the top of her voice urging everyone to return to their seats. Just as the class was under control, the door banged open and a young man walked in.
Leather jacket slung over one shoulder, uniform blazer unbuttoned to reveal a black tee clinging to every line of muscle, dark hair wind-tousled and falling into eyes that scanned the room like he was deciding who to destroy first. A silver chain glinted at his neck, and the faint scent of exhaust and cologne followed him like a warning. The class went dead silent.Mrs. Catalina adjusted her glasses with her voice sharp
"Mr. Sterling. You're late. Again. And that... vehicle is not permitted on school grounds."she said
He didn't even glance at her. Without a word,he raised one hand and flipped her off the middle finger high casually. Mrs Catalina face grew red with annoyance but could not say anything. She knew he could get away with almost anything. The bronze plaque in the library wall bore his last name in a gold leaf and his father was one of the biggest donor of the school and he was always favoured considering his rich background. He sauntered down the aisle of the class, his boots thudding against the polished floor, and dropped into the empty seat right next to me, I froze.
"Get up, you're in my seat"He said with a cold voice which was sending signs of intimidation.
"She is your new seatmate. I figured out you might need one who could help you.....change" Mrs Catalina said
I was already irritated with his behaviors and I was starting to hate his guts. He entered the seat.
He leaned back, legs sprawled, and looked at the teacher in frustration.Mrs. Catalina then took a deep breath and decided to continue with her lessons ignoring the fact that her worst student just stormed in.
Soon everyone began to murmur. Shortly after the lessons continued, he brought out a cigarette and a lighter intending to take a smoke.
Mrs. Catalina's face turned beet red.
"That is unacceptable Mr.Sterling. I won't let you do that in my class" she said
Kyle just shrugged, voice low and drawling, dripping with that effortless arrogance only billionaires seem to pull off.
"Add it to the list, ma'am. My dad's already paid for the new wing, figured he can cover a few tardies too."
He turned his head then, dark eyes locking onto mine. Up close, they were storm-gray, flecked with something dangerous. His gaze dragged down my face, lingering on my lips for a beat too long before flicking back up.
"New seatmate?" he murmured, just loud enough for me to hear.
"Lucky me."
I swallowed, feeling annoyed by his entitlement
"How unfortunate can I be today" I shot back, voice steadier than I felt.
"And you're in my personal space." I added
His smirk deepened, showing a flash of perfect white teeth.
"Get used to it, princess. If you eventually get tired the floor is well swept for people like you"
My stomach dropped. I felt like could not hold myself and my words.
Before I could respond, he leaned in closer, close enough I could feel the heat radiating off him, smell the faint leather and expensive cologne
"Relax. I don't bite... unless you ask." he said but I was deeply flustered.
'Is the smoke supposed to impress me or what?' I thought to myself.
The class was still staring. Mrs. Catalina came closer to him.
"You're gonna put that damn cigarette down unless I'm gonna send a letter to your father " she said calmly with a weird smile as if passing notes in secrets and surprisingly he obeyed.
And just like that, my quiet senior year shattered.
Because Kyle Sterling didn't just enter a room,he claimed it. And now, somehow, he'd claimed the seat next to me... and maybe a whole lot more.
Just then my phone buzzed in my pocket,Mom's text:
"Your sister is almost here, so don't be late okay?"
I quickly frowned at the message. Today was one of the worst days of my life and bad things were just starting to happen.....
