New Home, New Enemies

The big black car glided slowly through the large, towering iron gate. Behind it, I saw a grand mansion that looked more like a palace than a residence. Garden lights illuminated the path to the main entrance, and I could only sit transfixed, trying to digest the fact that this was going to be my home. The car door was opened by the driver before I could decide what to do. I got out slowly, feeling awkward in the midst of this luxury. A man in a neat suit, who seemed to be Alex's assistant, greeted me at the door. “Good evening, Miss Blake,” he said politely, his voice neutral. “We have prepared your room. All your needs will be taken care of during your stay.” “Yes, thank you.” I just nodded slowly, not knowing what to say. I followed her steps into the house, passing through the large mahogany door that opened wide to welcome me. “Woahhh, looking at this house and my old apartment, I look like a homeless person now” I raised my head while muttering. Inside, the atmosphere was even more magnificent than I imagined. The white marble walls reflected the light from the crystal chandelier hanging in the center of the room. The shiny wooden floor looked like it had never been stepped on, and the decor was too perfect to pass off as an actual inhabited house. 'Welcome Miss' 'Welcome Miss' 'Welcome Miss' A number of servants stood in a row along the hallway, bowing their heads in respect. I felt like a guest in a world that didn't belong to me at all. “This will be your residence for the time being,” the assistant said, his voice remaining polite. “If there is anything you need, please let our head maid, Madam Eliza, know.” I nodded again, trying to smile despite how awkward it felt. “Thank you.” He bowed slightly before walking away, leaving me alone in the large hallway that felt too quiet. I looked around, trying to shake off my awkwardness. This is only temporary, I thought. I'm here for this baby. However, I couldn't help but feel that this house would be the place where my freedom was truly tested. After I got my room and then observed this room “I don't know why I look at this room and feel that something unpleasant is going to happen” I shook my head while checking the room I received. I had just finished observing the room I would be living in-a spacious room with a large bed surrounded by soft curtains. Everything felt so perfect and cold, like this world was never designed for someone like me. As I walked out of the room to explore a bit of the house, my footsteps stopped when I heard a female voice from the end of the corridor. “Oh, so it's that girl,” the voice sounded full of mockery. “I knew it would happen again.” I sighed. I turned around, and there stood two women. The first was Amelia, a young woman whose beauty was almost unreal. Her perfect blonde hair and luxurious clothes showed that she was someone who was used to living in luxury. Next to her was a young woman about the same age as her with a cold demeanor that I recognized as Madam Eliza, the head maid of this house. I instantly recognized her as the woman who scolded me in my apartment. “Looks like Alex really has poor taste,” Amelia said with a small, mocking smile. “Look at her, Madam Eliza. Do you think she belongs here?” Madam Eliza simply nodded in agreement, her voice just as sharp as I remembered it. “Of course not. A slut like her has no place in this house.” I felt my blood start to boil, but I restrained myself. “I don't know what you mean,” I said in as calm a tone as possible. “I'm only here because of this baby.” Amelia stepped forward, her smile growing wider. “Oh, we know. But don't think that makes you special. You're just a bully. Someone who was lucky to be in the right place at the wrong time. Don't forget your place.” I clenched my fists, trying to stay calm. “I'm not here to take anyone's place. I just want to make sure this baby is born well.” “Oh, you're not taking anyone's place,” Amelia replied with a chuckle. “But don't forget, your life now depends entirely on Alex's generosity. If he changes his mind, you'll have nothing left.” Her words stabbed deep inside, but I refused to show weakness. “I don't care what you think of me. What matters is this baby, and I'll do whatever it takes to keep it.” Amelia chuckled again, then stepped back. “You're so confident, huh? You'll soon learn that confidence won't get you far in this place.” Madam Eliza simply nodded in agreement before they both turned and walked away, leaving me alone in the corridor. I stood there, trying to calm myself down. Their words were still swirling around in my head, making me feel a mixture of anger and hurt. But I knew I couldn't give in to this bullying. “Calm down Rora, you can do it” I reassured myself. The threatening welcome left me dumbfounded, I was still standing in the corridor, trying to calm down after the ridicule I had just heard. It feels like this house is not only big and cold, but also full of people who are against my being here. Heavy steps behind me made me turn my head. At the end of the corridor, the figure of Alex Thornfield appeared, with a strapping posture and an unreadable face. It was as if all the light in the corridor was centered on him, making me feel smaller than ever. He walked over, and Amelia and Madam Eliza who had been mocking me suddenly took on different expressions. Amelia's face became full of smiles, while Madam Eliza bowed her head slightly, as if they were turning into completely different figures in front of him. “That's enough,” Alex said in a firm voice, his eyes looking directly at them. “Dear, we're just trying to make sure this new guest knows her place,” Amelia said with a sweet smile, though her tone remained full of venom. “I don't need your help with that,” Alex replied coldly, before turning his attention to me. “Aurora, come with me. We need to talk.” I followed Alex hesitantly, leaving the two women who were looking at me with decidedly unfriendly eyes. He led me into a large study, with walls full of books and a wooden desk that looked like the control center of the entire house. He walked over to the desk, stood behind it, and looked at me with an intensity that made me uncomfortable. “Sit,” he said, pointing to the chair in front of him. I complied, trying to keep my composure despite the heavy atmosphere in this room. “I know this is not an ordinary situation for you,” he said finally, his voice cold but measured. “But you must understand one thing: your presence here is for the sake of this baby. Not for me, and definitely not for you.” I looked at him, trying to read his face. “I understand. But I also want you to know, I'm not here to trouble anyone. I just want to make sure this baby is born well.” He gave a small nod, but his expression remained hard. “Good. Because if anything happens to this baby, you'll pay the price.” His words were sharp as knives, piercing deep into my heart. “What do you mean?” I asked in a low voice, trying to hide the fear that was starting to creep up. “My point is simple,” he said, folding his hands on the table. “I have invested everything to ensure this child is born healthy and strong. If you fail in your duty, I will not forgive you.” I clenched my hands in my lap, trying to restrain myself. “I will not harm this baby. But I want you to know that this is also my child. I will do whatever it takes to take care of it, not because of your threats, but because it's my responsibility as a mother.” His eyes narrowed slightly, as if he was trying to assess my courage. Then he smiled faintly, but the smile offered no comfort. “Good,” he said finally. “I want you to keep that determination. Because I will tolerate nothing but the best for this child.” He stood, ending the conversation with a simple gesture. “Your room and all your needs are arranged. From now on, focus on your pregnancy. Forget about anything outside of this house.” I stood up, even though my body felt heavy. I wanted to retort something, but I knew it wouldn't change anything. When I walked out of that room, I felt like my life really didn't belong to me anymore. But I also knew one thing for sure: I wouldn't give up without a fight, even if it meant having to fight a man like Alex Thornfield. Chapter over. Aurora begins to realize that living in Alex's house is not just about looking after this baby, but also about surviving amidst pressure from everyone around her, including Alex himself. Will Aurora manage to keep control of herself, or will she drown in the domination of Alex and the people in the house?
