The nausea had already started for Rora and it was a sign that her pregnancy had succeeded.
Two months after the procedure, her familiar world began to change. Every morning she woke up feeling strange-nauseous, tired, yet hopeful. She tried to deny the signs at first, maybe it was just from being overworked. But deep inside, she knew what it meant.
Rora decided not to wait any longer. On a quiet morning, I held the pregnancy test kit in my hand, staring anxiously at the small lines that were slowly appearing. Two red lines. The answer I had been waiting for was finally in front of my eyes. I was pregnant.
“I'm finally pregnant”. Rora screamed feeling happy because that moment was the thing she had been waiting for all this time.
“Hello baby, I hope you're not disappointed with your mom” Rora stroked her belly.
She wanted to cheer, cry, or laugh-but at that moment, I just stood transfixed. This dream had finally come true. However, behind that happiness, there was a sense of anxiety that I couldn't contain. Was this the right decision? How would the man next to her, with his constant coldness, accept this?
“There's no need to worry about it Rora, you're already pregnant and it's a goal that's been achieved.” Rora reassured herself that she would be fine.
A few days after the news, there was a sudden call from the hospital and it was Dr. Carter.
.
“Hello, Good morning Mrs. Aurora” Dr. Carter said in his polite voice.
“Hello, good morning Dr. Carter, what is it? Calling me so early in the morning”. Rora replied.
“I'm sorry ma'am, can you come to the hospital today, there is some information that I want to tell Mrs. Rora”. Dr. Carter said as if she was calmly covering up something that might be serious related to Rora or.... her pregnancy.
“Alright doctor, I'll be right there”. Rora said with caution and hoped that there was no bad news for her pregnancy. Rora got ready as soon as possible to go to the hospital, this time she was alone because in the past 2 months Marcus had not lived in his apartment that I had occupied.
After arriving Rora was called back to the clinic by the woman with the calming smile who had helped me throughout this journey. She asked me to come in to “discuss something important”. There was no note of panic in her voice, but there was something that made my stomach churn.
Upon arrival, I was greeted with the usual warmth. Doctor Carter asked me into his small consultation room, and I could sense a hint of anxiety from her.
“Congratulations on the good news, Ms. Aurora,” she said quietly. However, the smile quickly faded, replaced with an unusually serious expression.
“There's something I need to discuss with you,” she continued. “And... I would like to apologize in advance.”
Rora frowned. “Apologize? What do you mean?”
The doctor took a deep breath, gathering his words carefully. “After further examination, we found that... an error occurred during your procedure.”
My heart seemed to stop beating.
“The sperm used was not from your partner,” she said finally.
I couldn't believe what I had just heard. “What do you mean? How can that be?” Rora was shocked to hear that.
“This was a mistake on our part, and we take full responsibility,” she said, trying to calm things down. “However, I have to tell you that the donor is not a random person.”
Her words hung in the air, creating a piercing tension.
“The donor is... Mr. Alexander Thornfield,” she added.
“Alex...xander Thornfield?”. Rora stammered out the words.
The name was like a bolt of lightning. Of course I knew him. Almost everyone in New York knew that name-the young billionaire famous for his businesses that dominated the city, the man whose face often graced the covers of magazines.
“So... the baby I'm carrying...” Rora couldn't finish her sentence.
Dr. Carter looked at her regretfully. “I understand this is difficult for you, but we're here to provide whatever support you need.”
Rora didn't know what to say. The world felt like it was spinning around her, and she could only sit in silence, trying to digest the reality that had just been thrown at her.
“So that's it doctor? I don't know what else to say about this.” Rora smiled bitterly.
“Please forgive us for this mistake.” Dr. Carter spoke with regret.
Rora walked out of the clinic with heavy steps, her mind in turmoil. The baby she was carrying was not Marcus'. Not the child of someone she knew or loved. This baby was the child of someone she never knew, a man whose life was far from her world.
As she walked towards the bustling streets, the sound of car horns and the hustle of the city seemed to grow distant. She stopped at the corner, staring blankly at the sky.
What should I do?
Aurora faces a reality she never imagined, caught between responsibility and confusion. What will happen when the billionaire who is the biological father of her baby learns this truth? What about Marcus, who didn't even care in the first place?
