Morning
"Hm." I rolled over pulling the thick blanket over my body some more. The bed I slept in wasn't uncomfortable, it was more so unfamiliar. Unfamiliarity is often uncomfortable. I rolled back to my right hoping I would find a better angle for continuing to sleep. The bed felt stiff as it poked at me unintentionally. How was I able to get any sleep at all? The pillow my head rolled on was tough and lacked a third dimention. I pitty whoever sleeps on this bed with full comfort. Couldn't my mother have known someone rich with the understanding that a bed should not break a back. I understand that I get to have a free vacation in this cabin and I should keep from complaining in my mind but I am sincerely concerned for whoever's bed this is. My almost restless body lifted itself off of the mattress. I groaned and placed my arms behind my back to prop myself up. Everything in the room was so dark, how early could it be? "We are going to the movies in a few minutes if you'd like to join us." "I'd love to but honestly I need more sleep." "That's alright, see ya in a few." No, it couldn't be that early. For a moment I thought that everyone going to the theatre was a dream but now I remember. I stayed home to sleep, but how long did I sleep? How late is it? "Mh." I groaned once again as my hand searched for my phone. I must have placed it somewhere around here. Soon I grabbed my phone from under the flat pillow I was laying on. "Twelve." I read the time. "As in midnight?" I asked aloud. I felt very confused. "Oh." I sighed out. "Pm." It was noon, I had successfully slept in. Why was my room so dark? I laughed at myself as I sat fully up, it could be the fact that the blinds were closed. "Duh." I swung my hand into the side of my head to try and wake myself up. I clicked the button on the side of my phone turning the screen off as I stood looking at the curtains. Swiftly I reached out and opened them revealing a dim white-blue colored window. Spots were darker than others, some lighter. "Snow?" I questioned aloud. It seemed as if the outside of the window had been covered in snow, a thick blanket of it just thin enough to reveal specks of light. "Snow." I rubbed my eyes. As I recall it wasn't supposed to snow last night, it was supposed to snow tomorrow. I guess it doesn't really matter when it snows, snow will show up eventually. "Okay." I took a deep breath and sat on my hard bed. "Everyone left to a movie, I slept in, I'll be here alone for about, I don't know, an hour? What time did they leave?" I asked myself questions I was unable to answer. "The math won't matter when they get home anyway." I stood back up walking toward the room's door. My fingers wrapped around the handle of the door, pushed it down, and pulled it out of the doorway. I was greeted with a dim natural light flowing nicely down the hallway. I was hopping for a more sunny kind of snow day. Turns out random snow outbursts tend to look gloomy. "Vacation here we go." I mumbled out sarcastically. Yes, yes, it was Christmas vacation, Hanukkah vacation, winter vacation, whatever you feel like calling it. It just wasn't what I expected for the beginning. No sleep. No sun. No family or friends, currently. I walked down the hallway to notice the big front window also covered in snow. That's a lot of snow. I wonder if it's still snowing. I wonder when it started snowing. Snow. I like snow. "Eh." I gasped out, all of my questions are so unnecessary. No point to them at all. I should just relax, I get to be in this cabin alone for awhile. As I walked I decided the kitchen would be a good next stop. The kitchen built into the house like an indent in the hallway walls, leading to a box without a fourth wall. Walking into the kitchen I realized something; This cabin is amazing. I didn't get to realize it's beauty last night, probably because of how late I got here. But my mom sure scored on this place. I know it may sound confusing so let me explain. I myself am not rich, nor is my family, though my mom does know a rich person who was gone with their family for their own vacation. They own two cats and needed someone to watch them, so they offered my mom, and my whole family actually, to come over and house sit. They're really nice people, they tell us we can eat whatever we want and use the hot tub anytime. Point is they're the cool kind of rich people. The cabin is also up in the mountains of Colorado. Which, personally, I haven't been to before now. Though I haven't seen any of it yet, my flight into Colorado ran late and I got to the cabin even later. Too dark to see any of the mountains. When everyone gets back I am excited to go exploring through the tree ridden mountains, most likely covered in snow. I heard there were trails looping around everywhere, and a river, that I might stay away from for safety reasons. In that moment I heard the muffled shutting of a door. It wasn't from the front, it came from the direction of my room; down the hall. I looked into the hall to see the door handle of the room next to mine move. Quickly I ducked my head behind the kitchen wall and stood there almost paralyzed. "Who the hell?" I mouthed. Everyone in the cabin left, I was alone. This is a nice cabin. It's a burglar! Someone broke into the house and they don't know I'm here. What will happen to me? I turned to my left fast to search for a weapon as I could hear the burglar's footsteps. My heart beat very quickly, I still didn't have a weapon as an unknown person moved closer. My eyes noticed a pan hanging and my hands grabbed it quickly before quietly sprinting back to the wall I hid behind. I took a deep breath as the footsteps got closer once again. With both hands I held tightly to the pan I waited for the perfect moment to strike, this burglar won't see what's coming. From what I could see from behind the wall, a foot appeared to take a step, that means this person is close enough. Swiftly I swung the pan out of my vision and into the burglar creating a loud ringing sound. I jumped from behind the wall to see a man fumble to the floor and grab at his face with one hand. "Ow! f**k!" He yelled before looking up at me with my pan still held high. I lowered my pan slowly as I realized who this was. This was no burglar, this was Mark. "What are you doing?" I asked Mark. "What am I doing?" He yelled. "What the hell are you doing?" "I thought you were a burglar."
